Beer-glazed black beans; chocolate-tofu pudding

At the risk of sounding like a big shill, I have to share how happy I am with the vegan recipes I'm finding on Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything iPhone app. That, and my veganized version of the Everyday Buttermilk Waffles yesterday morning were a huge success. I go to a camping festival each year and there is a community potluck at it. The vegan table is always a bit light on food so I try to make stuff for them (I'm not vegan) that is tasty, filling, AND can be made while camping.

I think I could make the pudding ahead of time and bring it (will it keep for 2 days?) and I could totally make the beans.

Question about the beans - is all beer vegan? I ask this because I just found out that sugar isn't vegan so now I wonder what other stuff I assumed was vegan, isn't.

www.barnivore.com is a great resource (that's updated rather frequently) to find out if your beer/wine is vegan. what would make it not vegan is the isinglass some companies use to quicken the process (had to wiki it the first time i was researching this stuff :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isinglass )

:D

Didn't know about nonvegan beers. Live and learn. How many more dastardly ways can the food industry think of to add animal products to food??

Not all sugar is vegan, but the one I use says specifically that it's processed without animal products.

To answer your question about whether the pudding will keep, mine kept in the fridge for about a day and a half before it was all gone. It might have kept longer except that it was just too delicious. I used single-serving Pyrex dishes with individual lids.
