I actually own the cookbook that was mentioned and really like it. Yes it uses some dairy, as indian cooking sometimes does, but i've never had a problem substituting oil for ghee or tofu for cubed cheese, etc. I would say about 75% of the recipes in the book, if not more, are vegan. I also do add garlic/onions to some recipes, and ::gasp:: people adapt cookbook recipes to thier personal taste all the time.
I also found the mods response to the annonymous comment a bit rude. I am not Hari Krishna, (although I have worked in a Hari Krishna resturant) but if this was my chosen religion, I would have found the comment made very offensive. While I haven't posted to the community in years, as a long time member, it is my understanding this is a community about cooking, not about debating opinions and religion.
While it makes sense to mention that the book uses dairy, and omits the use of garlic/onions, the attack on religion seems out of place.

When I did work there, the owner and two managers were definitely Hari Krisha, and did not use onion/garlic in any of the foods. Instead they used a spice called Asafoetida, or Hing powder. At that time they were making their own soy cheese/sauce. I'm not sure what they are doing now, although I would be surprised if they are using onions/garlic.
