earth balance now available in 3 lb tubs

Jun 07, 2006 20:39

back in mid march, i contacted the earth balance people to see if they offer earth balance in large tubs like other butter companies do (they even offer smart balance in the large tubs) and the lady responded that they didn't. then a few weeks ago i was in wholefoods and i saw a section for a 3 lb earth balance container (of course they'd all been ( Read more... )

i noticed last week while stocking shelves at the co-op that they had gotten in some giant tubs of earth balance. i was very excited. my apartment houses multipul bake-a-holic vegans, and we use an obscene amount of the stuff.

oh, you're involved with mariposa?

i'm so glad they decided to take my advice. (i bet it was "granola" that sealed the deal)

i hope it's the same formulation as the regular sized tub stuff.

yeah, my house has a membership, so we each work a couple of hours a month. have you shopped there at all? it is a pretty awesome place, alhough part of that is the convience of it being 5 blocks from my apartment.....they let you shop once without joining if you ever want to check it out (of course maybe you have already done so)

(i bought a tub, it is every bit as good)

they're the only place i had found teff grains so-far. but it was reeeeally expensive. :-(

and i'd love to be a member of a co-op, but i'm never in west philly often enough to justify it. i'd love to open a co-op in jersey. we ain't got none round these parts. it'd be lovely to integrate it into my bakery dreams. :-)

Now if only they would slap a French label on it and take out the beta carotene colour, they could sell it up here!

*so jealous*

no beta carotene? why not? if only it could tolerate the mail safely. (maybe in winter)

It is against the law in Quebec to colour margarine to look like butter. Normally, that is great, because I really don't want artificial colouring in my food, but in this case, it is just beta carotene.

The French packaging is a requirement of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, I believe, as well as the Office de la langue Francaise.

It is not the end of the world. Every now and then one of my local coops stocks up on it (risking a fine, I do believe), and so then I stock up in it. I also try to buy a bunch whenever I am south of the border (which this year has been every couple of months so far...).

Still, I would love it if it was more available up here.

That's the craziest law ever! Would they get angry at me for putting tumeric in my tofu to make it look eggy? ;)

I my GOSH! I am so excited. I don't do as much making in the summer time, but I went through 19 tubs and 6 "buttery sticks"packages in the fall/winter when it was "baking season", and it would certainly be nice for recycling and my wallet to use this option!

Yeah, it was ridiculous. My boyfriend has a lot of brothers who happen to also be vegan (well, two) and he has a fairly large family. Then tack on my grandparents, both sets of his, both sets of our parents (mine who are divorced, so that throws in another batch), my "step"-grandfather who happens to live with father and step-mother, uncles and aunts, people at work, landlords and neighbors. It was a rough winter. After Christmas I refused to go into the kitchen for about a week. I ended up making somewhere in the realm of 700 cookies in a 4 week time frame. Then add on 4 Thanksgiving pies, and a couple batches of Thanksgiving and Christmas cupcakes (complete with "butter"cream). I saved all my containers because I like to use 'em as leftovers, and I purchased all the buttery sticks at once when they were on sale buy one get one free. Oh, it was certainly a treat. The winter before last I was using this really nasty x-brand stuff from Wegmans that was like quadruple hydrogenated, but I could buy it in 5lb tubs, and it made life easier ( ... )
