First time poster, hello everybody.
I had a pet chicken for the last three years, who was rescued from a factory farm.
She had a wonderful life, warm meals three times a day and a giant, fenced yard to play in, plus a large kennel in my kitchen at night, and when it was cold outside (I live in Canada, it can get quite cold).
Unfortunately, she passed of old age a few weeks ago, and this has led me to consider adopting a new pet.
One thing I've wanted to do for a long time was have a vegan dog. The dog who holds the world record for longest life was vegan, and since they are not "obligate carnivores" I don't feel like I'm harming the animal by giving it a diet which doesn't harm other animals.
What I'd like to know is if you have any experience with vegan dogs, what worked, what didn't work. How difficult it is to transfer an elderly dog who is not vegan onto a vegan diet, and also any brands or favourite home recipes for dog food, especially ones available here in Canada.
I live in Vancouver, and am able to find a few brands locally, but on a recent trip to Seattle, I found that there was far more available down there. Also, most of the online vegan dogfood retails I've found are not willing to ship outside of the USA.
Hope you're all doing well,
Ian
