Peace Cereal is excellent

A bit busy lately, but I have time for a bit of an update!

A few years ago, I discovered Peace Cereal. If you've never tried it, you're really missing out. It's probably my favorite breakfast cereal ever!

Is Peace Cereal a bit pricier than buying a box of Frosted Flakes? Probably. However, they claim to donate 10 percent of their profits to community projects.

"...We support community projects that provide nutritious meals to those in need, through food banks and school breakfast programs. As a food manufacturer, if we can help alleviate hunger we believe we can start to create more peaceful homes, working and learning environments and, finally, communities."

Yeah, I know...buying a product because they claim to donate to charity is quite a passive way to do good. But at least this is a product whose heart is in the right place.

As far as the nutrition aspects go, Peace Cereal is vegan (assuming you enjoy it with soy milk), low in fat, high in fiber, made with whole grains, low sugar (but still sweet tasting, trust me), etc etc etc.

I'm sure all of the flavors and types are delicious, but my personal faves are the ones made with real (although obviously dehydrated) pieces of fruit...Mango Peach (almost tastes like dessert!), Raspberry Ginger (has a bit of an extra kick to it) and Vanilla Almond (simple but tasty...no fruit here, but a very pleasing combination of flavors).

I prefer to enjoy my Peace Cereal as a snack...a bowl of cereal, no matter how awesome tasting, is just not enough to fill me up until lunch. :-)  Also great for weaning kids off of the Lucky Charms, 'cause these cereals are still sweet-tasting and way better for you.

All of the different kinds are listed here. If you try one that I haven't listed, please let me know how you liked it an if it is worth a try! I've been enjoying the Mango Peach as 10pm snack lately, and once that runs out I'm thinking of indulging in some Ginger Hemp Granola!

On a different note (not a veggie note, but a note that might interest some of you!), I'm going on a two-night spiritual retreat at a Buddhist monastery called The Bhavana Society. I couldn't be more excited! I don't go for another two months, but I'll be mentally preparing myself until then. The monastery is remotely located in the forest on a mountain...sounds peaceful! Has anyone had an experience like this before? Please share!
