Things I Did That You Didn't

1. I made valentines and super bowl cookies for a super bowl party.

2. I won at orienteering.

3. I got a vasectomy.

Hmm. I should update more often, so news doesn't pile up.

What is orienteering? veep February 11 2004, 16:09:05 UTC
http://www.baoc.org/faq/ sums it up nicely.

Basically it involves running around, usually in the woods, almost always up and down hills, getting to specific points as quickly as possible, usually in a specified order.

The event I won was a "here are 30 questions about things in this neighborhood and a map showing where to answer each one. Run around to as many as you want and answer the questions to prove you were there". You were allowed to go in any order, and rankings were for people who got 7, 14, 21, or 28 of the questions answered (i.e. visited that many of the checkpoints.) I was the fastest of anyone who answered 14. People with more stamina than I got 21 or 28, which is how I managed to win the 14 level.

Though it's a "race", many people do it with no hope of winning, just as a challenge and/or just for fun. It's a LOT less boring than running road races, for example.

The 2 beginners' levels are on-trail and very hand-holding, so feel fee to try one. (Schedule at the BAOC website linked to above).
