http://baccano.wikia.com/wiki/Claire_Stanfield Personality:
Claire is a friendly and outgoing fellow, nice to anybody even when they give him reason not to be. When meeting with psychopaths and murderers, for instance, he always approaches with a genuine kindness. He holds his friends in very high regard, even placing their safty over his at all times. He also has a strong sense of justice and societal duty, feeling that everybody around him is important. He also has a temper, which while hard to bring into the light is very vicious. It takes something like innocent people being killed around him or a friend of his being the target of trouble to get him really riled up. He also likes animals, especially larger ones like bears.
Though that may sound straightforward enough, Claire is a highly contradictory person. He comes off as being modest and unassuming but has sudden shifts in his personality. He may be talking normally but segue into topics that disturb or frighten people, or say something careless and hurtful just to shrug it off with a sudden apology made without flinching. One such habit he has is proposing to complete strangers he fids attractive or interesting on the spot. He doesn't seem to put any forethought into his actions, being brazen and reckless in dangerous situations. This contradictory nature leads others to not take him seriously, as his demeanor is often eccentric enough to to make him seem abnormal and unimportant, but not abnormal enough to kill people without hesitation. Naturally, Claire kills people without hesitation unless he is torturing them. His never ending contradictions lend those close to him to often consider him unreliable, as he is possibly the most fickle person alive.
As a solipsist and a murderer often referred to as the most dangerous person on earth, Claire holds himself in very high regard. He believes he is charming if not naieve, a deeply funny and interesting person who will talk about himself at length with strangers and children on the street. A very outgoing person, the reason Claire comes off as fearless is because he genuinely has no fear. His sudden propositions are just a means of weeding out bad experiences, feeling that the girl who he is meant to be with will say yes and love him exclusively. Though he may seem rash and impulsive Claire doesn't rely on luck as much as it may seem. Deeply calculating, he plots weeks in advance and can read people flawlessly, even guessing the entire lives of people that can't speak accurately down to the smallest motivation. He believes that the world is a product of his mind, but not his imagination as he feels he is very unimaginative and plain mentally. He feels that because the world comes from his mind if he died the world would cease to be. Because he can't see that happening, he believes adamantly that he will never die. He doesn't think that he can't die, just that he never will. As such, he will wave off things like elixers of immortality or bullet proof vests, saying he doesn't need them. Despite being a criminal whose deeds include killing via railroad tracks and biting the fingers off of a child, he feels his justice is absolute and everything he does is well within what is 'good' or 'righteous,' and that anybody who disagrees just doesn't get it.
In terms of where he's going with all of this, Claire doesn't really have any larger motivation other than to explore the world he has been given and spread joy throughout it. He likens life to watching a movie he greatly enjoys, and as such has no great career goals or anything of the sort. Any plans he makes he makes in the short term, believing everything will work itself out in the end. He wants to some day have a wife and a family, though he doesn't plan on settling down in his profession as a criminal any time soon.
As said previously, Claire is a solipsist. He believes his mind made the world, and exlusively for him. As such, he feels his way of life is best, but being a contradictory person, he also believes criminals should face their punishment. Following no patterns, the most important thing to him seems to be what he feels is most important at any given moment, something that changes rapidly. One moment he seems to believe justice is the most important thing, and then he seems to value the plight of the common man above all else.
As such, it can be very difficult to pinpoint Claire's opinions on politics or other people. He generally likes the world no matter what state it's in feeling a state of crime and anarchy is good because it means he will have a lot of work, but also enjoying a state of peace and lawfulness as it means he will get a lot of smiles and everybody around him will be happy as well. His opinion of violence and morality is as contradictory as the rest of his personality. On the one hand he feels that those who become criminals and killers are simply scum and unable to live honorably and yet on the other hand respects those who think they can, for instance his brothers in the Gandor family are held in very high regard.
Though the thing most people notice about Claire immediately is his almost obnoxious gift of gab, Claire's biggest outward quirk is his unreadability and unworldliness. Things that seem to make sense at first cease adding up under scrutiny, making him seem as he feels of himself like an observer completely outside of normal conventions and rules. Another contradiction, despite this he has several traits that cement that he is still human. When he's nervous, his hands get jittery and fiddle with anything nearby. He eats aggressively when frustrated. When he's in love, he blushes and swoons and runs a million nervous scenarios of love and rejection in his mind at once. In his free time, he studies whatever interests him. He reads magazines and watches movies regularly as a big fan of cinema. He tells tale tales and urban legends, almost all of his widespread legends true stories about himself. When it rains he watches the drops on his window and takes in the smell of wet concrete, when it's sunny he enjoys the warm rays. Though he is an infinitely strange person, he is still just a person at the end of the day.
Extra:
Character Abilities: -Claire is incredibly strong from his days in the circus. He is regularly referred to as the strongest man alive, able to lift full grown great white sharks over his head with ease.
-Being a circus performer, Claire is extremely agile and acrobatic. He can do flips and handstands on any surface, no matter how small or mobile it may be, even flinging himself into the air after backflipping off of a moving train only to land in the same spot he left.
-His extreme agility gives him unspeakable speed, enabling him to evade sprays of machinegun fire at point blank range with minimal effort.
-Claire is a crazy good judge of character, as previously mentioned he can guess peoples' entire lives and motivations the first time they meet, quickly gaining a strong idea of what their fears may or may not be. Every new thing he deducts leads him to learn a hundred new things about a person in a matter of seconds.
-He can talk for minutes at a time without pause.
-Very good with guns, Claire can shoot the ear off of a man on top of a moving train in the middle of a fist fight.
-Claire is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat, able to take an opponent's weapon and use it against them the first time they attempt an attack. He once kicked a gun out of a man's hand who was standing less than two feet away then caught it by only moving one leg.
-He is good at making himself look intimidating. While onboard the train The Flying Pussyfoot, he appeared to most people as a shadowy and formless monster with gleaming red eyes, leaving them stricken with terror and a case of the deads.
-He is good with kids.
-Can eat so much pizza.
-He has very good hearing. He once shot a man on a floor below him the moment the man drew his gun. He shot through the floor and killed him in one shot. That's crazy.
-Claire can conduct trains and has a working knowledge of luxurious wines and an intimate knowledge of luggage compartments and the code of passenger conduct all train passengers must ascribe to.
-He can apparently climb up walls without problem. The truth is there's no real way to know how he was clinging to the closed windows of a train while his hands were covered in blood. He just kind of shows up places.
-Claire knows almost every method of torture there is.
-Claire has crazy good luck. When he needs a hostage one usually presents itself. When he wants to fake his death a doppleganger will typically appear for him to slaughter in his stead. When he is going to die he suddenly doesn't, the list goes on.
Possessions: -A bag of snacks, including an apple, an orange, salted cashews, and a pastrami sandwich on Italian rye.

Ah- Woah! This guy is holding something cool!
[There's a clumsy, rustling sound on the seal]
Hey! It's like a radio, right? There's - Ah!
How cool! I can hear peopel from all over! Hey, mister, can I hold onto this? Ah, no no.
There's no need to answer, I'll give it back later, promise!
So there's nothing to lose, right? Well, it's not like you need it that much...
[A couple of loud tapping noises]
I heard somebody just now! Hey, who is it?
Hello?
My name is Claire! I think so, at least! I might change it later, so keep in touch.
You really should speak up and- what's so funny?
And I really have to be going now, I'm moving in to my new place. Eh?
[suddenly, he gets quieter]
Hey, mister, forget about it! It turns out I have one in my pocket.
You can keep yours, I'm pretty bad about returning stuff anyway. I just get attached, it's not like I'm a thief, or anything bad like that! Honest!
[another clumsy rustling noise and some fiddling clicks are heard]
Oh! This one has a little train on it! I like it a lot better, but thanks mister!
-- Ah! No, no, you keep it, I insist!
[The voice coming out of the seal doesn't stop for a long time]
Log/Prose sample: Tearing out of an antique dealer, Claire was in a hurry. Coming to the edge of the curb, he cranked his head to the side in a quick grinning grimace, then shed all emotion and settled into a jog down through the streets of Manhattan. Despite his steady composure, his mind was racing. How had it happened this way? It was really rare that a target could run away from him! Granted, he wasn't being paid for this, so he had nobody to promise that it would get done except himself. Still! That promise to himself should be good enough! The whole thing was getting a little bit ridiculous for him.
"Do you not want to be caught that badly?" he sounded a little impressed as he talked to nobody in particular. "Well, I'm sorry but it's going to happen!"
Still talking to nobody, letting everybody listen, Claire ran through the streets and made sure to slow down when too many people were around. Not only was it rude to bump into people who had nothing to do with this, but he didn't want to start being followed, or let his target know he was coming, even though it could be over a thousand miles away by now.
Whether by some mistake of his or by an unexpected manuever by his quarry it didn't matter to Claire. The way it was evading him made the chase all that more exciting. He was sure, as he climbed to rooftops and got a feel for his route on high, that the reason he hadn't succeeded yet is because making it too easy wouldn't make him as happy. He was being given a challenge and he loved it! He was faced with something that absolutely refused to be caught, a universal strength that might be on the same level as himself!
"Nah, there's no way." That was Claire's answer to several questions as he finally noticed it: A train had been stopped in its tracks by an automobile accident, bound for a sea port, carrying all sorts of cargo purchased by rich folk. That was the conclusion he reached when he looked at the boxcars, all clean but unmarked. "See? My world came through for me."
He hopped down and made his way with luggage in hand, blending in with the bemused passengers until he made his way into the train.
Tearing open a crate, he smiled and lifted his target into the air. The train finally started moving.
"There's no more running, you can't get away anymore."
Waggling his finger in a matter of fact way at the music box, Claire was almost giddy with the thought that in a few moments he'd tear his way into a world of make-believe he'd only read about or seen in movies. It was going to be so much fun.
"This is going to be so much fun!" he said excitedly.
He gave a crank of the turn key, and it snapped. The device seemed determined not to sing its tune.
He made a slightly consoling little chuckle.
"Ah? I thought you might do something like this," and he produced one of his own, cast from iron, made from crude sketches he made simply from hearsay. "But I said you can't get away any more. I deserve a vacation, you know."
Bringing his luggage closer, Claire closed his eyes as he began to turn his own key.
If the music box could cry, it might have.
