I just finished reading Mansfield Park. Suffice to say, I liked it much better than I liked Sense and Sensibility. I do also understand the meaning behind the words "it is quite unlike other novels by J. Austen". This is why I indeed do like it so much.

In a short summary, MP tells a story of a young woman, Fanny Price, of "low" parentage, brought up from early teens by her rich aunt and uncle. From the moment she is familiarized with her new home at Mansfield Park, she is immensely attached to her cousin, second eldest son of Sir Thomas Bertram, Edmund (superb name, really), who seems to be the only one to show her any open kindness and regard.

You do realize where this is leading, don't you?

Well, it doesn't end there, and though I am a bit disappointed by the hasty ending of the book, I do appreciate the way the story is told throughout the book. For in fact, this is the first time in a J. Austen novel that I have read of a "gentleman being attached to the heroine whom she doesn't regard in the least". In fact, whom she despises and loathes.

Quite amusing really. You should all have a go. I vouch for it being good, though having the J. Austen kind of slowness to it.

Indeed this is so much better than S&S that I actually have something to say about it. And I didn't dislike S&S, I just don't hold it as high a regard as I do with MP. Actually, I liked S&S! - the people were just a lot less bland in MP.

Only three weeks till I move!
