A serious subject...
I have a younger brother, Dave, who is a nice guy. He's 22 and went through a rough time with discovering his homosexuality and rediscovering his heterosexuality so I guess I should cut him some slack - I don't want to.
A couple of years ago, I went to the US as an Au Pair. Because I had a nice apartment for a reasonable price in Nuremberg (town in germany) I handed it over to him. We kept the paperwork to an absolute minimum (which meant that he got to keep my phone number and stuff). We cleared it with the landlord - luckily!
So, I go to America, content that everything will work out nicely, my stuff carefully packed in boxes in the basement of the flat. Since I'm writing about this, you can guess that it didn't work out the way I planned it. During my leave, he ordered stuff in my name (computers) and didn't pay for it. He never payed his phone bill (which was still running in my name) and to top it all off, he moved back in with my mom and handed the apartment back in the worst condition possible: dirty, broken windows, moldy dishes in the sink. Guess who didn't get her deposit back?
So he moves back with mom and I call him to ask if he brought the stuff from the basement. Sure, he keeps saying, not a thing left in there. I finished my au pair time early (not because of this, I wanted to be with my boyfriend again) and move to Vienna with Chris. We go to Nuremberg to get my stuff as soon as possible - of course it's still in the basement of my old apartment. We take as much as possible (mostly clothing, dishes, sheets, some books) to vienna and Dave promises once again to put the rest in moms basement. His boyfriend was supposed to help him - a lot of Daves stuff was in the basement, too, not only mine.
Guess what? He takes all his stuff, tells me again that the basement is empty. I ask my mom to see if its true and she tells me that yes, he brought tons of boxes and put them in the basement.
Next time we come to Nuremberg I go into her basement and check whats in there - a pile of boxes, completely inaccessible. We take about two boxes - Dave swears that the rest is buried under his stuff. I thought I recognized some of the boxes that where on the bottom of the heap and so I believe him.
I didn't get back to Nuremberg for a while - we don't have a car, we sometimes borrow one to visit my mom - and we where completely busy with moving into our new apartment in vienna. So one day my mom calls me to tell me that she got a letter from my former landlord. He sent a bill for the cleaning of the apartment and the clearing of the basement. He complains that a lot of stuff had been left in there and that they had to pay someone to get rid of it.
Basically, my stuff has been destroyed.
There's a lot of stuff thats missing and since I can still think of something more that was in there, Chris thought I could make a list - to be continued...
Missing stuff:
2-3 Boxes of books (I'm not quite sure)
1 Box of clothing
1 box with CDs and old journals
1 box with memorabilia, eg stuff that I wanted to keep - scripts of plays I appeared in (school plays), stuff I brought from travels...
1 box with dolls and stuffed animals that I kept
somewhere in there where also the collected letters that chris wrote me
I still get letters of unpaid bills and this doesn't make it any easier to forgive him - I don't pay them, he has to, but its a constant reminder of this story.
luv
