Take any news paper today or watch any news channel. The top story is that of 'Zinedine Zidane' headbutting Italian defender 'Materazzi'(poor fella). Guys!!! Italy won their 4th championship after a drought of 24 years. Give them credit yaar. Whats the use talking bout an ageing maestro who brought shame not only to himself and his country but also now forced the experts to rethink of their decision to compare him to the likes of pele n maradona.
We will never probably cometo know what exactly transpired which made zizou headbutt materazzi. No body can correctly answer that other than zizou. What was he thinking? Was it pressure as the extra time was about to get over and match was heading towards penalty shoot out. But there were 21 other players too on the ground and cup meant same to all as it to him. Then why he had to bid adieu his career in such disgraceful manner? I personally never felt they had any chance to win. They claim of beating spain, then brazil and finally portugal to reach the grand finale. But so did Italy. France won their last 2 matches by scoring just a single goal in each of the matches and one was through free kick. Italy had won their cup in the semis only when they scored 2 sexy goals in the last 2 minutes of the match against mighty germans. Yesterday belonged to them. They played superb game and converted all 5 penalties into goals in the shoot out.
Zizou had no face left to come on stage and face the crowd at the award ceremony and let 'Barthez' wore the captain's band. Anyways whats done is done.
