I was at a bar last night and paid for two drinks and it was $27. Not counting tip. It's a new place, so of course it's a pioneer for price-hikes in the area, but woof. Every other place in the neighborhood is going to catch up, I assume. Of course we nursed our overpriced drinks and talked about class warfare.

Not last night, I saw the Saudi film Wadjda, about a preteen girl's ardent wish for a bike, and it was delightful. Also, the bike Wadjda wants is a really nice one, with a wide seat and chain guard and streamers off the handlebars. Who among us could deny her this bike! (Her sourpuss of a teacher, that's who.) I left the movie thinking about movies about bikes, and the power and economics of bikes when you can't get access to a car -- the friend who dragged me to it thinks that The Bicycle Thief is the best movie ever made.

You will be glad to know that curling will be on almost every day for the next two weeks. Okay, some of the timeslots are 3-5 AM, but CNBC will have it in the early evening. Do I know where CNBC is on my cable system? I will soon find out! Curling is one of those sports that I find mesmerizing, not because it's particularly difficult to grasp or difficult to do (no idea, honestly), but because it is basically what happens when you are wearing no-tread shoes while trying to clear your frozen driveway of rocks, except on purpose. And with great concentration. And brooms! Also, quite a few teams wear hilariously patterned pants.

I have no interest in most other Olympic sports, and the NBC evening drivel even less so. But raw feeds on unknown channels -- sure.

In other sports news, the equipment truck is leaving Fenway Park for Spring Training today. Pitchers and catchers report in 7 days! I heard this on public radio, of course, because that is how we roll.

I have moved mostly over to Dreamwidth. Please comment there if you can.
