$70 ice cream maker (yes, I priced it in advance), the kind where you freeze the center column in advance and then churn with a handle, is mine for $5! It is smaller than standard and has labelling that strongly indicates it was originally purchased in the 80s, but who cares!
Home made ice cream all summer long.
The rest of the day was transporting plants and transplanting them into my mother's yard. On the one hand, she is over 60 and still doing all the gardening doings! And on the other hand, as I shoveled compost dirt into a new stepped bed, wheelbarrowing to and fro, I thought, this is the kind of work a 36-year-old should be doing, not a 62-year-old. As it is an excellent upper-body workout.
Anyway, we've gotten tomatoes and cukes into the ground for her, and beaten back the chaos a little bit; mostly she needed someone just to get her started and keep her on target. Now it is time to get tomatoes and cukes (and beets) into the ground for me. At some future point, when she decides to transplant a bunch of ginger plants out of the way, they may fall into my hands.
(I swear I do things other than garden. Just, not in the month after last frost.)
I have moved mostly over to
Dreamwidth. Please
comment there if you can.
