I am pretty sure I learned this in 1st- or 2nd-season promo interviews. (Which... might be on the boxed sets?) In fact, I think it was one of the Lone Gunmen who spilled the beans, in sheer delight at the idea of young Odiles turning into aliens in their spare time.

Yeah, I was really not happy with either the Surprise Scream Masks Of Graveyard Horror or the Legions Of Protective Dead. If any non-white person had had much of a SPEAKING role, I'd've felt /minorly/ better about it, but only minorly.

The action stuff mostly just made me cackle in brain-turned-off glee, but they lumbered in about the same ways some of the Last Crusade bits did, too. Formulaic. Depressingly so.

And you make very good points. It makes me wonder why people like Lucas etc don't have any insight about how simple a different choice would have been. Still enjoyed seeeing Indy again, and his hat. But oh my, the way humans go through the day with gigantic blind spots worries me a bit.
