Literature and Life

Literature really is such an interesting and joyous thing to read and be a part of. Countless poems, short stories, essays, plays and excerpts have been read this semester that you find are extremely relatable to and hold some of the most pure and innocent truths. An excerpt from “Song of Myself” by Walt Whitman says “...you shall not look through my eyes either, nor take things from me. You shall listen to all sides and filter them from yourself.”

I think that this is what we have all been doing this semester, regardless of whether we did it very often or not often at all. Every story, every poem, every play, has held some kind of significance to us.... A memory or thought that has forced us to think about our own lives, perhaps see things in a new light or done nothing other than force us to accept the truth of our pasts and what has happened in them. Quite often we have taken these thoughts, whether because we wrote them in our commonplace books or in the margins of our textbook and then in turn have typed them and presented them in our LiveJournal’s for others to read and relate to.

Keeping this in mind I would like to share something my close friend shared with me....

“My deepest fear isn’t to challenge what I want to conquer but not being able to conquer what challenges me, but with the sword of my mentality and the shield of my strength I will keep fighting to break through life's webs”

Life can be such a hard thing at times. Like a rollercoaster there are ups and downs, sharp left turns and sharp right turns that shake us to our cores. The thought that we may fail AGAIN, is often a harder thing to bear than the actual challenge itself. Getting rid of that fear will make us stronger and more able to face the world and the things being thrown at us at a constant rate. Keeping in mind that we can accomplish anything we put our minds to, we as individuals will become stronger and we as a society can conquer more than we think. Just close your eyes, take a deep breath, open your eyes and you’ll see a world of possibilities.
