Life - How to get through it

“Retreat often into your sphere, rest yourself in your center, plunge yourself into your element: good advice, which must be remembered.”

-         Joseph Joubert (p321)

This quote written and found in the notebooks of Joseph Joubert, I believe is true on so many levels. How often have we felt that life is unfair, or that perhaps it’s just too hard and not worth holding onto? We will find throughout our lives having encountered many “bad days” or “bad weeks” or a “bad year” and we realise the only way we managed to get through it all is so get away from it and spend sometime alone, to think about everything, and then let go of it as if it was never there to begin with.

Often this is a difficult thing to do as it’s so hard to let go of the past… start fresh. Feelings and thoughts that we felt at the time were just too good to let go of and the terrified thought of not being able to get it all back and feel it again is just too much to bear…

In the end it is worth it. Whether it is because your not with your ex boyfriend or girlfriend, whether it is because someone close to you has passed away, whether it is because your family has fallen apart, whether you got fired from a job or whether it is because you ruined your favourite shirt or pair of shoes, it is still pain.

Finding the thing that you are perhaps best at it and that you enjoy: painting, singing, dancing, writing, running, reading, swimming, etc. can start you on your road to recovery.

When you find the ability to let go of everything, detach yourself from the world, even for the smallest of seconds (even taking in a deep breath and loosening up your muscles), you will startle yourself with what you may find within, the answers that might simply come to you and the enlightenment you were so desperately looking for will just come… as long as you have patience.

If we did not take this time to “rest” ourselves and detach ourselves from the hectic society we live in, think of how we would be?

Think about it….
