Groans, cheers, and a sobering thought

Groans - I probably have to go address the biosafety committee next week for approval of my lab research. Of course my advisor will be out of town, which is why I have to go, although I probably know all the safety protocols and potential problems better than he does (fungi are not field of research). Unfortunately the people I have to talk with most likely have limited science backgrounds so explaining how fungi become pathogenic should be interesting.  I'm trying not to envision some McKay-esque moments.

Cheers - I was told I should be able to refinance my house - much lower rate and no closing costs (ok, an 1/8 of a point higher rate vs, $2000 in closing costs - that 1/8 amounts to $15 a month, so not a biggie given I'll only be in the house another 2 years or so).  I really can't stand my current mortgage company and can't wait to get rid of them.

Sobering Thought  - The fighting in Gaza seems so removed until I learned one of the post-docs in the lab down the hall has immediate family there.
