To all my students: I am extending your homework due dates to this Monday due to the recent events at our school. Please have your homework ready by then because I will not collect late work.
Also, if you feel the need to speak to someone about the tragedy, please do not hesitate to find me. I'll be keeping office hours all week and weekend.
Private from Students:
I fear that the deaths will have a prolonged impact on the students. Many are not prepared for such a tragedy to occur and may resort to less than ideal methods of coping. I can only hope that they will seek help when they need it and that others will be willing to give comfort.
I do believe that counseling may be in order for the students. And perhaps the staff as well. It's just better to be safe than sorry.
