In Memoriam: Harold Glenn Veazey

Mar 02, 2010 19:39

My great uncle Harold Veazey died this morning. He was born on December 7, 1908 (before it was Pearl Harbor Day), died March 2, 2010. He lived to be 101, and did more after 65 than most people do in their whole lives, and we will miss him.
I guess this'll be my last trip down to Ahoskie, North Carolina. Don't worry if you don't know where it is. Almost nobody does, because it's a tiny little town that's only gotten tinier since the tobacco taxes got hiked in the early 90s, shutting down the warehouse there.

For those of you that pray, I'd appreciate it if you think of my family. More specifically, my grandparents, who are the last of their generation. All their brothers and sisters have died, and I'm sure it's weighing on them, since my grandmother just had her birthday. Uncle Harold didn't have any kids, though he did look on my dad as a son, and his wife died at least twenty years ago.

family, prayer request
