Ready Your Dirigibles!

That's right. I'm one of those people now.
I've finally decided to make a steampunk gentleman adventurer costume. I already have a great hat and some good boots. Goodwill can supply me with the pants I need, and the basics of the outfit are done. The things that are really going to set it apart are a utility belt and the requisite goggles.

The first real step I took towards making an actual costume was buying one of these:

Which I'm going to turn into something like this:

And, depending on whether my mom can help me or not, I'll either be making or ordering a holster for it that'll take up basically my whole right thigh. I've got a reproduction Civil War US cavalry belt buckle that I'm going to get a belt for, and hang a sheathed knife & a canteen on it, plus a couple other pockets for other things.
I've got a brown leather bomber-looking jacket that will work well with this until I can get a vest, also with pockets.
What I really want is some cool brass goggles, which I might even be able to make out of PVC plumbing bits, a leather strap, and some other light sewing. Unless I decide to just buy some aviator goggles (think World War I) because I might not have enough time between now and Halloween to do it all myself. Plus, eBay has a decent amount of steampunk stuff for what seems to be a pretty good price. That holster I was talking about is only twenty bucks or so.

So, basically, look out. Because I'm now one of those people.
