Bad Birthday News
You remember Katie Sigmon, the girl that was born the same day I was and is now in the hospital, right?
Well, for her there's good news. The doctors detected some more brain function in her than they'd first thought and they'ved moved her to Charlottte for better care.
The bad news is for someone else born the same day I was: Morgan Goforth.
Morgan died last night in his sleep after being sick for a while of some digestive ailment. He was the exact same age as me, but he had cerebral palsy. His family goes to our church and I was in youth group with Morgan's older brother Curtis, who is now a minister somewhere down east, near Washington or Jacksonville I think. I never knew Morgan all that well, since he did have such a severe mental handicap and wasn't able to express himself all that well, but my family's gotten to know their family pretty well. Morgan & Curtis's mom took care of Morgan all by herself. Back at a time when doctors preferred institutionalization to home care, Mrs. Goforth took her boy home and made a good life for him. So if you're of the praying kind, pray for Mrs. Goforth more than for her son. Morgan's better off now, but Mrs. Goforth probably doesn't know what to do with herself now.
