A new start? A reversal to the end? Or just a flash in the pan?

1205 hrs, Winnipeg. My apartment

I'm working from home today since it's -34 outside and traffic was apparently at a standstill this morning. Seemed easier (and warmer, and safer) to work from here. Small businesses are great sometimes.

Last week I read an article on Ars Technica about how LJ was once king of blogging, and how with George RR Martin's departure from the platform, this old bastion of the blogosphere fades increasingly into irrelevance. Given the fact that my last post on here was from 2013, I can't say I disagree to much with the "irrelevant" description.

I don't remember exactly why I stopped posting here. When I started this blog I was a second-year undergrad, with all the hot-headed, left-leaning, I-know-more-than-you attitudes about the world that goes with being 20. I posted fairly regularly; usually at least a post per week on average. Lots of complaining about my minimum-wage job working at Games Workshop in St Vital Centre, pontifications on the state of the world -- oh, to be back in the halcyon days of Stephen Harper and George W Bush instead of the Trumpian dystopia we've found ourselves in -- and many, many pictures of various Warhammer models I'd been working on. But at some point I just... stopped.

Maybe it was the migration to Facebook, though honestly I don't post much there either. Maybe I just realized that I was posting into the void and nobody really read what I wrote anyway. Maybe I just got bored. I'm really not sure.

I've never been one to keep a written journal. On the shelf down by my calf I've got at least two journals I started ages ago, wrote in for about a month, and then gave up. I think maybe LJ went the same way for me.

But, in the spirit of revisiting the past, and dumping some of my thoughts into a written medium that's marginally more permanent than instant messages, and maybe just a little bit of hipstery "I was a blogger back in the olden days" I'm going to try posting on here again once in a while. I have no idea if anybody will even read any of what I write, but it'll be interesting to see where things go.

See you around, Internet. I'll be back soon.
