It's Over!

FIRA 2012 officially ended yesterday. Our team finished with a respectable 5th place in the marathon, 4th place in the weight-lifting, 4th place in the marathon, and 2nd place in the united soccer (football) competition. Not bad considering that only three of us did any work on these robots.

The whole team is now in Plymouth. I'm actually writing this post from inside Plymouth University's robotics lab. I think our lab is bigger, but theirs is much, much cleaner. They've also got carpet and a full-size RoboCup field in the centre of the lab. I'm a little bit jealous. BotSportTV is filming some RoboCup referee training videos with Jacky right now. After that they'll be filing some FIRA events with our robots and Plymouth's.

We just came back from a HUGE Spanish lunch at some Tapas bar down by the waterfront. I'm pretty full right now. Got to see some of Plymouth's older areas down by the harbour. It seems like a pretty nice city. Flatter than Bristol was from what I can see.

The plan for the next week is to head to Cardiff for the day tomorrow. It'll be a long day; it's almost 3 hours by train each way, so we'll be leaving at about 7:30, and getting back to Plymouth close to midnight. But we have tickets for The Doctor Who experience, which is right across the street from the Cardiff Bay train station. Besides that I'm not sure what we'll be doing all day.

Tuesday is going to be spent in Plymouth. Likely doing some laundry, seeing the sights, going to a pub or two, and generally relaxing. Then it's off to London early the next day, spending a day and a half in London (and finding a cheapish hotel in London to stay for the night), and finally flying back home on Friday morning. *whew!*
