1335, Tokyo/Narita Airport
The trip home has officially begun. I left the Wongs' place at about 0450 this morning to catch the shuttle to Taipei's airport. Got through security super-early and had to kill about two hours in the departure lounge/waiting area. For the first hour or so I was literally the only person in sight. Kind of an odd feeling being the only person in an airport.
Anyway, the trip from Taipei back to Tokyo was uneventful. I didn't sleep much. Nodded off a couple of times, and ate a pretty tasty chicken hobby kit (to paraphrase Flight Club). Feeling bored, and having finished reading Old Man's War last night, I decided to watch Public Enemies. I nodded off a few times, but it seemed like a pretty decent movie. I may have to watch it again when I'm not so exhausted.
I had a window seat for the flight, and it was pretty clear when we were flying over some islands, so I took more pictures. There was one really cool, semi-active-looking volcanic island we flew over.
Right now Chi Tai is off wandering the airport stretching his legs somewhere. We've got about four hours to kill before our next flight takes off, so I can't blame him. And for some reason we need to claim our checked luggage in Chicago after we land, and then re-check it and go through security all over again. Thank-you, DHS. At least I haven't had to dismantle Darwin yet.
If I had any white tape on me right now I'd be very tempted to run a little marathon track along the floor and let Darwin stretch his legs out too. I wonder what kind of crowds we'd draw. And how long it would take before security told us to stop. Probably just as well I don't have any white tape.
