Should be a good storm

2030, in room 410 of the men's dorm at NKFUST

Apparently there's a typhoon on its way. That's kind of cool, except for the fact that it's already killed 7 people in the Philippines, and they've shut down the entire city for the next two days. And Kaohsiung is one of the largest industrial cities in the country. So basically I'm surrounded by heavy machinery and petrochemical plants -- or so I've been led to believe -- which may or may not get flooded or otherwise damaged by high winds and rain.

What's even better is that the internet connection in this particular dorm room does not appear to work. Either that or my ethernet cable is broken. In any case, I cannot actually get online to check for any updates or anything. So I'm a little nervous, but kind of excited. We don't get typhoons back home.

The typhoon isn't supposed to hit until sometime around 0200 or something, so I've got some time to kill. I don't really want to stare at robot code right now, so I'm thinking I may watch some TV shows I downloaded before leaving home and haven't watched yet. After that I've got an invitation to a typhoon-watching party with the guys (and girl) fro Plymouth. They want to waterproof their robot and film it splashing around in puddles. And since I happen to have an extra, large, heavy-duty ziplock in my luggage a plan has been formed. Plus I've got my headlamp, which should give us sufficient lighting to get some good footage. It'll be exciting.

Anyway, that's about all I have to say for now. Time to sprawl out on that now-infamous shelf and enjoy some mindless entertainment.
