Truthfully it was all a blur in retrospect.
I enjoyed the event. A lot more than I thought I would, actually.
We arrived Friday night to check in, which we accomplished quickly, then we headed back to the In-laws house for some down time and sleep.
Saturday morning we had a bit of a time getting things together... at least I did. It takes longer to get into full kit than I thought. I also learned that my hair hates me in the morning and that I need to buy a package of bobby pins and leave them at the in-laws' house. I also need to stitch little loops into my red pill box hat to hold the hat to my head with the bobby pins. I have not mastered the art of wearing that damn hat yet.
I went to speak with the Gate Keepers and rescued
psychoharlequin from a confused lady who thought that her paperwork was no longer valid since it was over 12 months old. It states right on the papers that it is good until March 2007. Go figure.
I made it to the Tourney Field about 100 ft ahead of the royal procession. I managed to find
lisette_1528. From the road as I sped by to registration I had thought "Gee, I thought
belfebe said she WASN'T going to be here" and I realized that it was lisette that I had seen. :) Guess it is easy to confuse on good looking lady in great looking clothing for another when you don't have your glasses. :p
I spent a bit of time making sure that Lyra was taking care of herself. We learned that she needs to pack a peanut butter and jelly sandwich if she wants to be able to keep watering the fighters without falling over. She said it was a good food, 'cause she could carry it and still hand around bottles. :p She did keep the marshals both watered and fed, providing stew, water, and hot chocolate to those who needed it. I can see why His Majesty has taken an interest in her activities.
I also had some quality time with
dameroksanne. I tried to keep an eye on her coughing, but she seemed to have herself in hand. I really enjoyed hanging out with you, let's do it again sometime soon. :)
Some tiny bits of drama were spread out over the day, but mostly not enough to even comment on.
Dante and I had various people coming up all day and offering either congrats or sympathy. I don't think the guys realize how lucky I am to have him as my husband. Love you, darling. And I know that you guys were kidding, but seriously, he is amazing.
Dante was unfortunately a bit worn out so he didn't do as well as he could have during the tournament. Who knew getting married on Wednesday would have taken a lot of his energy away from him... ;) Oooops.
I also enjoyed just hanging out under the baronial dayshade. I had a chance to get to know two of the newer members of the barony.
I need to take the MoL 101 class from Lisette some time in the near future. I'd kinda like to sit in on the MoL table at Winter Tidings. I know the MoLs had an interesting time setting up the tourney this year at Ymir, but from what I've heard it worked out ok. I'm very grateful that these wonderful people (MoLs, Marshals, and all of the event staff) took the time to make this a wonderful day.
We stayed for evening court and started to finally freeze when the sun went down. We hung out with T and A and JC and A and had a good time gossiping and passing comments. It took a while, but finally the presented
grauwulf with his scarf and we could head back to the In-laws.
At which point confusion ensued. If court hadn't continued, I could have just bellowed over to our wayward child and gotten her to meet us and head back to the car. Instead we ended up playing a really bad game of unintentional-hide-and-seek. Bleh.
Next time I'm bringing the hand radios just to make sure we can find each other in the dark.
Sunday we had a late breakfast with the extended in-laws, actually heard Lil'E say some letters and some words, then headed home where I promptly collapsed into a two hour nap. After we unloaded the car.
I just finished washing all of the stuff from the weekend. Tomorrow I put away all of the clean laundry and then I'll beat the dirt out of my kirtle and coat. Yup, beat the dirt out. Or brush it. I can't wash them and I'm not paying to dry clean them when I'm probably going to wear them again for the next two weekends in a row.
Oh, and I'm very happy that there is so much interest in my parasol. I used the mostly finished product on Saturday when the sun was really starting to bother my eyes. It worked wonderfully. Except that I had a wonderfully warm 'fur lined' muff that didn't do me any good as one hand had to be out of it to hold the parasol. That settles it. As soon as the parasol is done, I'm making the mitten/gloves. Of course, I had gloves with me this weekend, but having burned my finger on the iron on Saturday morning... well, let's just not go there.
I managed to get a tentative commission on another muff... Lisette email me and we'll hash out details if you're still interested.
All in all a good weekend.
