Terra-form-ing

It is science-fiction
come to life.  I hope
that they start tomorrow
so that I’ll be around.

Fifty years to make
Mars into Earth II.
Trees, water, a warmer
climate-it will be

perfect.  Yet fifty years!
My god!  They must start
tomorrow so that I will
still be alive, hopefully,

at seventy. I want to be
alive to see this plan fall
through.  When man realizes
that it took nature to make

Earth, and their science
did nothing more than kill
another planet.  When Mars
is withered  and dead-

like an old man at seventy, who
is waiting for Earth II to fail-
people will see that the future
that has taken fifty years

is finally here, but it won’t
work.  I’ll just rock in my
wheelchair, hardly knowing who
I am, and laugh and drool, because

Earth I is about to die
and now you all have no hope.
