Author's Note I was thinking about how different Maude was with Ezra in Witness than she was in Sins of the Past. Maude-motives are never crystal clear, so this is just me taking a shot at them.
Yes, yes, that was my argument as well. I think she herself was scarred so badly that she views any attachment as dangerous to self preservation and strives to protect her son from it. Her love for Ezra has always been obvious to me, she simply has a skewed perception of the world.

Love this look at Maude and just what she is thinking about in "Witness". This is a very logical, for Maude, way to proceed in getting Ezra out of this town and back on the right path of conning and gaming. Nice bit where Ezra curls up after Maude talks to him. Great bridge to "Sins of the Past". Thanks for sharing this.

Thanks! "Witness" gave me the impression that Ezra had never really confronted his mother about their past before, but what we see as Ezra having found courage and security in people he can trust, Maude sees as a threat to herself and their way of life. Glad you liked it. :)
This is great! It's really how I see Maude. A mix of cold, hard 'business' woman and loving mother who doesn't really know how to show it. Lovely piece. JudyL
Oh Helen! Maude's motherly instincts are just like her, unpredictable! LOL! You really did wonderfully getting inside her head, making us see what she is seeing, feeling and thinking. Gosh, the poor woman! lol!
Thanks, Kim. Maude loves Ezra in her own unique way and I think she really does want the best for him. It's just that her idea of what is 'best' doesn't match anybody else's! :)
You did a beautiful job of showing Maude's love and affection for her son and her worldview, why she's so against him settling in Four Corners. I think your take on Maude is just perfect.
Thanks! Writing Maude is sort of an exercise in thinking outside the box. She loves Ezra but her view on what is best for him isn't quite like anyone else's. :)
