In Which Naming Occurs, And The Logic, Brendon Has It

Apr 23, 2009 12:28

The first time Ryan hears Kevin's little suicidal side-project's cutesy nickname, he knows he won't have to look far to find the source.

"The Nightwalker? Really B?" He asks, eyebrows raised, staunchly ignoring Brendon's protests that he is good at names, okay? The rats seem happy anyway, so shut up Ryan Ross, for as long as he can before he has to cut in, grinning  now, "I don't know, Bella always seems to flinch a little when you call her by name."

"Bella flinches because you're pulling threatening faces," Brendon huffs. "She's a lady."

"B, she's a rat."

"They're not mutually exclusive."

"And even you're not going to try to justify naming Aurelius, are you?"

"It suits him."

"If I asked you why, would your answer even make sense to me?"

"It's not my fault you can't follow simple logic."

"B, you have many great qualities, but simple and logical are not two of them."

"But--but Ryan Ross! I am just a poor, simple boy trying to get by in a cold and unfeeling world! Naming that rat Aurelius was just me doing my small part in the greater beautification of the city's spirit!"

"It's because his fur makes it look like he's wearing a dinner suit, isn't it?"

"Well, that too."

"Which," Ryan began, triumphantly returning to his earlier point, "Is not a very good reason for a name either! Really, B, you can't just go around naming people, or rats, against their will like that."

"Does Kevin mind? Has Kevin said he minded?"

"Kevin is the king of the stoic, he wouldn't say he'd minded if you dropped a cinderblock on his foot, if you're family."

"So your argument is moot anyway. Ha, logic!"
