today's high in Newark, DE: 35 degrees
today's high in Palo Alto, CA: 66 degrees
kind of makes up for the fact that it hasn't stopped raining, huh?
went to dinner with deirdre and susan (who is freshly imported from
london!) and then came back here and played the most animated game of
trivial persuit ever. lara, jeannie, and adrianne showed up and we
laughed about old times a lot. it was nice because i don't think i've
seen lara or jeannie since at least summer after freshman year, maybe
even christmas, and i definitely haven't seen adrianne since
graduation. laughing with them was wicked fun.
saw into the woods at theaterworks tonight. it should have been
amazing. i mean, the witch was Thursday Farrar, and as it states in her
bio "she performed the title role in AIDA in the original Chicago/Broadway companies." and the baker's wife was Christine Noll who "made her Broadway debut as Emma in Jekyll & Hyde."
seriously, it wasn't a shabby cast for Palo Alto, CA. honestly, the
cast was amazing, it was the direction which sucked. almost every
female character (except maybe little red riding hood) was played
ditsy... even cinderella and the witch!!! in the 2nd act, they cut
random little important bits for no reason. if an audience is going to
sit through the entire show, i'm sure they'll sit through the extra 2
or 3 minutes you cut, if it makes everything flow better and lends
itself to the story. (at least they didn't cut the 2nd midnight like
they did at American though) also, they felt like flexing their
monetary wings, and decided to make the entire second act in the
winter, just for kicks. they also decided to double cast some of the
characters kind of strangely, especially the stepmother/granny, since
they both must be on stage at the same time during the 1st midnight.
instead, the quite large and distracting cow puppet crossed when granny
should have delivered her line.
bottom line: see it if you're in town and you've never seen into the
woods before, but take it with a grain of salt, because even though the
talent and tech are amazing, the direction and the amount which was cut
left something to be desired. (plus there were no midgets)
while i was gone caitlin left this very funny IM for me which will
probably be funny to only my itw people, but i decided to put it here
anyway so maybe i'll find it randomly again someday:
caitlin has soul: maybe they'll
have a midget! who knows. if they do, when they do, thats the point.
all the rest of it is chatter. If a midget is pure in intent and is a
gent and is just a little bent, does it matter? No! What matters is
that midgets are of tiny size, which something you should really prize.
Go in a disguise and get that little guy! when the end's in sight
you'll realize.. if the midgets right, it justifies the.... midget
theft!
the whole thing just really made me miss into the woods, no matter how
much shit went down, it was great fun to chill under that trapdoor
every night and eat munchkins, or be the birds, or hang out with some
of my best friends every day. i miss it all.
in other news, we sent out christmas cards yesterday, finally have the
tree decorated, and all my presents are wrapped. all that is left is
the great cookie bake of 2005 and it will officially be christmas.
