...because it's been all moaning all the time for me, recently. AKA, ten things I like (and think there should be more of) in fanfic. With the caveat that I'm reading rather sporadically these days, so for all I know this stuff is everywhere.
1. As
spican pointed out, more Krycek het. Especially, more Krycek/Marita where they're wary and not exactly in love, but not at war, either.
2. And while I'm on the subject, more Krycek fic that isn't sugar-coated. His actions may make sense, but that doesn't necessarily make him a good guy. Not necessarily.
3. More Kay Howard. Come on, it's Kay! It's Homicide! What's not to like?
4. More crossovers, especially those nice smooth ones where the universes just kind of brush up against each other. The thing about crossovers is that they let you get a new perspective on the fictional universe--or rather, on two fictional universes.
5. More plot, not that I have time to read long, plotty stories, but in principle there should be more of them.
6. And more gen, or at least stories where the relationship isn't the story. I guess that falls into the category of character and plot stories, rather than romance stories.
7. I'm a little shy about this one, because frankly I've been avoiding them recently, but I really wish that there was less prejudice against OC stories; a lot of people seem to feel that they're not really respectable, which means that they're usually written by less experienced authors. I know it's hard to get a fanfiction audience to care about an OC, but just because it's a challenge doesn't mean you shouldn't try it out.
I know, I know, not a lot of company on that one.
8. F/F slash. This stuff is really hot, and it should be encouraged.
9. I want more Alias mytharc fic. I want Sloane, and Jack, and Irina, and Sark and all those people. I want plot, and betrayal and loyalty and love and hatred, because it's all there. Yes, it is.
10. And finally, I mentioned this to
auburnnothenna a while ago, but I'll mention it here too: Summers Family Reunion. XMen/BtVS crossover. Barbecue and the phrase "while you were dead." Seriously, it's always bothered me that Mr. Summers never turned up to take care of Buffy, or at least Dawn, and some kind of weird story about being a pirate in outer space makes as much sense as anything else I've seen. I can't write it myself, because it's got one fandom I don't write and one I don't know.
As an aside, please don't say, "oh, you should write that." If I had time, I would write.
And now the procrastination: I see the character interview meme going around again, and I'm in. They'll answer your questions, or I'll know why.
