6. The one I sometimes give as a gift
Wege zur Weisheit: Der Traum vom richtigen Leben, by Hanne Tügel, published by S. Fischer Verlag in 2013. I don’t think this book has been translated into English, the title would be something like Paths Towards Wisdom: The Dream of a Righteous Life. The author is an acquaintance of mine, and she humbly states early on that researching wisdom does not make you wise, but maybe - hopefully - more kind. On the pages of this book she gathers much knowledge about wisdom, from the Sufis to Star Wars, from the Queen of Saba and Nelson Mandela to Albus Dumbledore, from Plato to Sophie Oluwole.
