Another repost from the last five weeks for
sherlock60. The drabbles go with the Sherlock Holmes story mentioned in the header. For The Hound of the Baskervilles, we wrote two drabbles or clerihews, one inspired by the first half of the book, the other inspired by the second half. All these drabbles will not make much sense if you don't know the story.

The Adventure of the Second StainTitle: The Nameless Decade
Author:
vayshRating: G
Words: 60
Author's Note: This drabble is set on the evening of 1 August 1914, when Germany declared war on Russia.
This Saturday evening, I go through my old notes. A slip of paper falls from the diary marked 1881 - 89. In my friend's unmistakable hand it has the Kaiser written on it. For twenty-six years I held on to this memento from Holmes' most distinguished case. Today, with Europe on the brink of war, his supposition seems like prophecy.

The Hound of the Baskervilles Ch. 1-7Title: The Baskerville Demon
Author:
vayshRating: PG
Words: 60
Author's Notes: Holmes would not like this. :) Supernatural AU, of sorts.
The maiden's pure soul was beyond the demon's reach. He watched it rise towards Heaven, then turned to rip out the mortal's throat. Here was his prize, pledged to his Master mere hours ago. As life left Hugo Baskerville, his soul, lost in darkness, was set free. A slight nudge was all it needed to follow the demon into Hell.

The Hound of the Baskervilles Ch. 8-15Title: The Holmesian Spirit of the Moor
Author:
vayshRating: G
Words: 60
Author's Notes: Inspired by this line in ch. 9 of the The Hound of the Baskervilles: '[The man] might have been the very spirit of that terrible place.'
The moor stretched darkly towards the horizon. Holmes had never considered himself a lover of the countryside. But here - atop this moon-lit tor - he saw the appeal. Above the ruins of primeval man rose the mine tower. Hidden pathways crisscrossed the granite-speckled peat. It was, Holmes thought, a place that could breed both innocence and crime, same as the city.
Canon Story:
The Adventure of Wisteria LodgeTitle: The Avenger
Author:
vayshRating: PG
Words: 60
Author's Notes: Written based on the hypothesis that the fictional San Pedro of the story was, in fact, Haiti*.
Once, he had been Félix Sumera Rigaud. The proud name of a man whose ancestors had thrown off the shackles of slavery. Now, he was Cook. There was less pride in this name but no less longing for freedom.
He'd put the clock an hour ahead on the mantelpiece. He'd made his offerings, life warm and pure. All was set.
* An interesting article about a 1864 trial shaping late 19th century attitudes towards Haiti and voodoo can be found here:
The Trial that Gave Vodou a Bad Name.
Canon Story:
The Adventure of the Dying DetectiveTitle: Oyster Under the Looking Glass
Author:
vayshRating: G
Words: 60
Author's Notes: Pre-slash Holmes/Watson. Written in response to Holmes' "Quick, man, if you love me!" Apologies for the artsy title. I've two thirds finished of a longer version, and for this ficelt the title actually makes sense. ;)
Following his charade posing as a dying detective, there was a change in Holmes. I would catch him at odd moments - moments that before he had spent observing an item ostensibly plain and ordinary, or contemplating some unfathomable mystery. Now, such moments were dedicated to the observation, and - it even seemed to me, the contemplation - of none other than... myself.
