I'm really, really happy to have my Dallas Friends. I was rather sad coming back to Dallas in 2006 and only knowing like three people that I had any interest in spending time with. Seriously, you guys rock, and I can't imagine what my life would be like without each of you. I'd certainly be depressed as all fuck.
So the ups and downs I've been experiencing are an inevitability in my quest To Feel again, so it's understandable that I have Really Good days and Not So Good days. Things that make me happy include:
- Seeing war protestors WITH war anti-protestors in College Station. Freedom of Speech hard at work, and it's beautiful.
- All of my geckos that live outside my house eating the bugs. They're getting SO BIG!
- Realizing that we, as humans and products of the Universe, have largely figured out where we came from and how we got here, ALL ON OUR OWN. This is absolutely amazing to me.
- International collaboration on scientific efforts. (Other international collaboration makes me super happy as well, you just don't see true altruistic intent very often)
- Hot people who are completely comfortable wearing little to no clothes in front of others (while I certainly enjoy this, it truly does make me happy that people are comfortable with their bodies and enjoy showcasing their Incredible Machine)
- Life. Life makes me happy. It's amazing. (I sound like a damn hippie here)
There are countless other things. Like Beautiful Days. And by "happy" I don't mean that these things make me feel good (they do, but that's incidental). They truly make me feel full and complete. We live in an amazing world and I'm thrilled to be a part of it.
Random story before turning in for the night:
My office (that I rarely have to actually go to) is near a certain zoning district. It supports a niche industry that prides itself on customer satisfaction and quality of experience. Personal attention is at its highest in this industry. Yes, I'm referring to the Titty Taverns (as
eyeawry so succinctly put it). Honestly, I'm not aroused by 99% of the girls/activities here, but I can't argue with the fantastic lunch specials that are offered.
Last Friday I went to said establishment to grab a late lunch (which was very good, btw), but I also had some time to kill. Thankfully I had a problem that I was working on- understanding the proton-proton chain reaction that powers our sun (and many other stars). Between a notepad and Wikipedia via my iPhone, I definitely developed my knowledge further on this. I must admit, I did imagine myself as Richard Feynman, sitting at the strip club, working out particle physics problems. God only knows what the strippers thought (well, I do have an idea- they were probably pissed that I was distracted and not giving them money).
If you haven't read "
Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!" you really should. It's truly a fantastic book and fun read.
