Goodbye band days...

Well I guess I can let out the details now, now that it's official. You may remember a while back when Lucky Fedora and the Not Your Daddies were the local opener for Malone while they were in the area on a tour. It was a good experience, and I've kept in touch with Michael Malone since - just you know, exchanging emails and all that. The occasional talk. He lived out in Silverlake for a while, and I mean - you know, he's a pretty nice guy.

So when they were putting together a fall tour, they asked us if we wanted to be the first opener. And heh... well. If I went out on tour, I would have to get a leave of absence from college. And these are my last two semesters of college - the last year I've got to be up in New York instead of living with Ellis down in New Orleans full time. So if I put college off, I'd be putting my whole life off.

At the same time though, it's not fair to the band for me to hold them back. While I want to finish my college and teach, a lot of them want to be professional musicians. While I've had my shot at fame (and rejected it, and don't want it to come again) - some of them would really like that opportunity. So I left the band. Maria will take over as band leader / front person. I'm trying to negotiate with Malone to see if they'll accept the Not Your Daddies without Lucky Fedora.

Still it feels like the end of an era. I was really enjoying the band, and the whole stage persona. I guess Mister Lucky doesn't have to die entirely but it still feels like losing a part of myself. But what can you do? It's just not my path.
