MY KOREAN ARCHIVES PART II

YEAR 2010

→ Name(s): Pasta
→ Genre: food, comedy, romance, work life
→ Review : Undoubtedly the best drama of 2010. The characters are very unique and refreshing. There aren't as many stereotypes as there are in kdramas such as women-must-marry-before-30 or women-can't-be-as-successful-as-men. Seo Yu Kyong is the example of hardworking and  chef-aspiring women though a little clumsy and narrow-minded. She and Choi chef have great chemistry although she is often the one being scolded or bullied (but her aegyo is adorable). The theme which obviously italian food is one of my favourites. SBS is very good at creating food-theme dramas (My Name is Kim Sam soon, Coffee Prince) and the OST is also very charming.
→ Rating (out of 5): ★★★★★ FAV!

→ Name(s): God of Study
→ Genre: comedy, school life, drama, frienship
→ Review : The Korean Remake of the manga Dragonzakura. I have watched the japanese adaptation years ago so was hesitant at trying this out. It turned out that Kim Sooro and Hyomin of T-ara were casted so I wanting to check out their actings. Not so bad (liked the OST) but the plot turned out to be very long and most of the time boring.
→ Rating (out of 5): ★★★

→ Name(s): Assorted Gems / Jewel Bibimbap
→ Genre: comedy, family, romance, drama
→ Review : This drama ranks in the top 5 of my favourite korean dramas. The tittle may be intringing especially if you don’t know what is a bibimbap, the Korean national dish. The drama portrays very well the Korea family whether the social class.
The Gung family have many members and especially different generations under the same roof. Their relationships aren’t always joyful (see when the children kick the parents out) but they do care about (Bi chwi took up the restaurant/the parents always go back home with food) and help (when there were financial issues) each other. The grandmothers are also very funny to watch.
The Seo family is the typical rich family but there are all caring (especially the father when the mother was sick) members. The son is willing to live by himself for months by his father's order. The daughter although immature at first is pretty responsable of her actions. As for the outsiders of the families, there is of course Carl which korean is astoundingly perfect, I can't watch to see him in other dramas.
→ Rating (out of 5): ★★★★★ FAV!

→ Name(s): The women who still want to marry / Still marry me
→ Genre: comedy, work life, drama, romance, friendship
→ Review : Unexpected coup de foudre. I didn't think to like romance drama centred this much. Watched this popular drama out of curiosity and became addicting. There are 3 couples in the drama and of course I was most interested in Lee ShinYoung-Ha Minjae. This couple dealt with cliche prejudice especially age, profession, marriage... but the image of modern women is reflected as strong, charismatic, prideful, which is a little different from other dramas. The second part of the drama's pace was quite slow, but overall is good drama to watch.
