And this is why I do music

I'm having just too much fun. Last night was the first orchestral rehearsal of the year. Lots of new music handed out for the concert on the 29th March. Among these, one is a romp through classical music as seen on Bugs Bunny cartoons, which has time-changes galore. Another is the theme music to Mission Impossible, an absolute percussion-fest, but with high strident horn parts too. I'm really going to have to watch that I don't wear my lip out in the days before the concert.

And if this wasn't enough, next week I'm conducting the rehearsal again. Not only do I get to show off my conducting in 5/4 and coping with all the tortuous time-changes, oh and the sheer ego-boost of wielding the baton, the podium is the best place to hear the music. How many of us have pretended to conduct while playing a recording, only to have to follow rather than control the music? Believe me, doing it for real is the biggest rush ever.
