bang bang, that awful sound

I have such good friends. Three of them came over and helped me demolish the kitchen, in the process filling an entire 3.5 cubic litre bin in the space of three hours. The kitchen is enormous now most of the shite has gone. And I'm totally excited by the possibilities and the fact that I can actually control this bit.

To give you some ideas of the trauma and the delirium with which we destroyed (stopping only to marvel at the insanity)...

On the walls there is (in order from the outside of the wall in):
* fake wood veneer paneling from the 1970s
* orange and brown wallpaper
* maroon wallpapered plasterboard
* bits of wood hammered into the wall to keep it level - some postage stamp sized, some more CD shaped
* baby-poo green anaglypta wallpaper
* violent beige particle board
* rather beautiful tongue in groove joinery. With many many holes

The floor is almost as interesting... from the top to the bit nearest the ground, we have:
* grey fake marble lino squares
* totally objectionable beige lino with weird sacking backing
* snot green plasterboard
* bits of concrete
* some gorgeous matai floorboards, interspersed with rotting particle board and some brown painted thing that bounces disturbingly
* bits of brick and stones to hold things up

When in doubt they stuffed holes with the sports section of a 1974 newspaper or space invader. The walls got the paper, the floor (!?!) got the space invader. Cos that makes sense.

Tomorrow I get to demolish the cupboard they built to cover over the two bits of pipe protruding four centimetres up from the floor.

house, life
