For his own part, Equius had loved sleeping in Gamzee's hair with the single-mindedness of a heat-seeking grub. It had been relaxing to be a grub again, peaceful and soothing, and the past week will forever be in his memories as a swirling blend of impressions: enormous hands gently cradling him, rumbling laughter that sounds like it's coming from the gods, warmth and softness and safety.
He stirs in his sleep, starting to wake up slowly, and he turns his head towards the heat pressed up next to him, a faint, sleepy smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

The barely awake part of Gamzee felt the shift next to him, but most of him was still simply too lost to sleepiness to react to it. One of his arms lays draped loosely over Equius' waist, swimming in the now too big shirt he's wearing. It is almost hard to imagine that not even a day ago, he had fitted this thing perfectly, and now it hung around him, making him look like a child dressing up in an adult's clothes.
Breathing out on a snuffy little sound, a tiny little half-snore, he turns his head, neatly depositing it on Equius' bare shoulder, and it's only the grace of god that kept him from jamming a horn into Equius' forehead.

The sensation of horn moving just past his forehead moves Equius further towards wakefulness, as does that gentle little snore and the sudden, familiar weight of a head on his shoulder.
He cracks his eyes open, stares for a moment at the yellow horn tip inches away from his eyeball, then shifts his head to get it out of harm's way. The change in position makes it easier for him to see who is cuddled up next to him... but it's not like he didn't already know. Equius' face relaxes into a simple, peaceful smile--the memories of the Veil temporarily far away--and he bends to brush a kiss across Gamzee's forehead.
At the light kiss, Gamzee reaches up, placing a barely conscious pap on Equius' cheek. It isn't until his hand has landed on Equius' cheek and he can feel the soft skin of it rather than the shell like, segmented exoskeleton that Equius had possessed during the previous week, that he wakes up.
He grunts for a moment, eyelids trembling as he drags them up, and then he is staring at Equius and a sleepy warm smile curls onto his bare face. His eyes are still soft, still warm with sleep again, and back to their normal slate-grey. Even his freckles, that had faded somewhat in his adulthood, were back in full force. And his voice is back to normal too, far higher pitched --and occasionally prone to breaking-- than it had been. The promise for that low, rumbling voice is there, but for now it is just that: a promise. "Hey you."
