First Soul Burn

The young man who arrives now, however, is anything but quiet. Flying through the air smack into a giant lump of coral fails to be a silent maneuver in any world.
SLAM.
At least the 'thunk' of him hitting the ground afterwards is a softer. In fact, it is nearly inaudible amongst the hissing that has begun, like the sound of water hitting a hot pan. It is coming from the young man, but not from his mouth: it comes from his skin. The dampness that comes with every newcomer is quickly evaporating, rolling off of him as steam.
He scrambles to his feet, whipping a pair of spears around into a defensive position, beginning to growl a challenge to an unseen enemy --
Then rational thinking seems to catch up and the boy realizes he has no idea where he is.

...what manner of place is this? Are my senses so rattled I experience hallucinations?
