[The Kraken held virtually no interest for Orihara Izaya. Instead, he had thus far minded his own business. He had a whole lot bigger things on his platter.

Which should be obvious by how he looks right about now. Bruised up face, bruised around the neck- which yes, suggests someone probably tried choking him recently.

Overall, he doesn't look in the best of shape. Despite the battery, he looks cheerful as he skips along through the forest.

That's when- of course- he notices Jacob. Curious!]

My, my! You look so serious!

[Prancing over and stopping just a few feet in front of him. Leaning forward, he peers close at his face.]

Are you thinking about God or something important~?

[Jacob looks up, momentarily broken out of his concentration, and just smiles, his blank blue eyes almost seeming to look through the man in front of him.]

Ah? No, not really. I'm just taking in the beauty of this place in and using it as a backdrop for my own thoughts.

[He shrugs, but then his eyes narrow as he spots Izaya's wounds.] ...Are you alright?

Hmm. If you say so...

[He doesn't sound too convinced but who really cares? He's just going to invite himself to sit down right next to Jacob.]

Eh? [Right.] Oh yeah, I'm fine. I just got into a little scuffle with an old...--[Waving that little detail off.]

Say! I don't think I've really met you yet. Although I have seen you around. Got a name?

That must have been bad...did you do something to make this person act badly towards you?

[He cryptically smiles.] Of course I have a name. I'm Jacob. A pleasure, Izaya.

Not that I know of...[See; bullshit.] I was just getting my jacket back.

[Blink of surprise. Then a terribly amused grin.] Ooh~. So you already know my name. How exciting. Does this mean I have a personal stalker?

[Frown and he shakes his head.] No, no. I don't, do I? [Leans forward onto his knees, peering at Jacob.]

So what else does Jacob know about me?

Is that so? [He doesn't sound sarcastic, but he doesn't sound completely convinced when he asks that. He shakes his head.]

Hardly not. I just know people, that's all.

[He stares back, face unchanging as the surface of the lake he is sitting in front of.] I know some things about you. Not everything. But enough.

Un..Well yes. [Truth..Although that situation in and of itself is a little complicated. The actual fight though. That's something else.]

Enough? [How delightful. He tilts his head and his smile remains. It doesn't quite reach his eyes. He doesn't look nervous though. He looks rather blank.] Enough to what?

Hmmm. All of that over a coat. Well, some people put much value in their things...

[He shrugs, returning that seemingly blank stare. But there's something more in those eyes, a flicker of something wise and powerful and old, staring out from a very young-looking body.]

Enough to know who you are, Orihara Izaya.

It's a very special coat.

[It's hard for Izaya not to notice that. Enough to make him turn more completely and lean towards him. Personal space? He doesn't know the meaning of it.]

Heh. I don't know about that. That's a pretty big statement, don't you think? But since you say you know so much about me, don't you think it's only fair if I get to know enough about you? You seem...ah...interesting, to say the least.

Enough to kill for?

[He says it matter-of-factly, and doesn't even seem to mind that Izaya is taking the personal space thing out of the equation. He just blinks.]

Interesting? Me? [A shrug.] I guess you could say that. And I guess you can try to get to know who I am. That isn't hard for someone like you.

Kill! [A wiiiiide smile.] I'd never...[Granted that doesn't mean he wouldn't make someone want to kill themselves. That's different though.]

Well of course. You're the first person I've met that's been so direct about knowing me. And I have to say, not a lot of people can really say that. [Hmmm. He considers this and sits back into his own space.]

You're right. I could. Maybe I will! Would you be adverse to having dinner with me? Or maybe some tea? We could have a lovely conversation.

But you have, haven't you? Just not over coats.

[He doesn't really know that, but it's safe to assume with what he's picking up on the guy.] I'm different, what can I say.

[And another shrug.] I'm sure we could. Tea would be nice.

Well....

[He's not about to confirm or deny that. It doesn't matter if this guy knows the truth or not, he's willing to deny it no matter the evidence against him. Besides. It's always been indirect, and really, Izaya would argue that it wasn't really his fault.]

Everyone likes to think they're different. Even in a city like Vatheon, with all of its demons and monsters and freak shows with human faces...They like to think they're special and different and unique. To tell you the truth though, they're all a lot more human than they probably realize. And a lot more predictable than they realize.

[Scoff. Then a shrug.] But what do I know...Ah yeah? Wonderful! I have this one tea that's practically to die for.

nos_servabit October 22 2011, 22:47:06 UTC
So, you think being human is just like being ordinary? Hmmm. Yet, "ordinary" doesn't have a meaning, you do realize that? What's ordinary to you is what's completely alien to someone, and as you go through each person, you start to realize that maybe "normality" or "ordinary" doesn't really exist. Everyone is unique as a snowflake that has formed under different circumstances- some behaviors are predictable, but you will never see the same exact person twice.

[A benevolent smile.] Is that so? I'd love to try it then.

I'm aware enough. It's a good word to use though. Predictable might be better though. More fitting. Ah but you see, I've met a lot of people, a lot of creatures...And they all fall into a very similar category of existence. I haven't been proven wrong so far...Well. Not on a bigger scale anyway. Anyone can throw a surprise or two at someone but no one is consistently unpredictable.....Except for Shizu-chan of course but that's something else I'd rather not talk about. Heh. Of course not...But...Most people seem to be built with a similar psychological system..With mild differences. Sure, they're all kind of different, but when it comes down to it...generalizations are usually pretty accurate. I have yet to be proven otherwise.

[Deeeep breath. He mocks that smile with one of his own.] Great. You seem like you'd be a pleasure to have a conversation with. I look forward to it. Any time that you're free in particular?

People aren't machines, Izaya. Sure, they might share something in common and might be easy for you to figure out, but there's a reason why we and, let's say, the computer aren't similar to one another. We don't have systems to tinker with. There's something much more potent behind it all, and that is called the souls. Machines do not have souls.

[He shakes his head.] I'm free anytime.
