[Gamzee too, occasionally stores food in his cheeks for later eating. But he doesn't store groceries there! Usually. When he spots Mrs Brisby, he perks up, veering away from where he was going to meet her at the cheese stand, crouching down a bit to get more or less at eye-level with her.]

Heeey, mama. Whatcha all up to here?

[In the process of putting more in her mouth, she stops.]

I'm just collecting a few things for dinner tonight. Nothing special.

You want a hand?

[Look! He has two big hands that could carry lots of things for her. Hell, he could even carry her.]

Oh, I can handle it. But I would like you to come home with me; I have a gift for you.

Woah, really?

[He wasn't expecting that! Which is what makes it better. Yay, gifts. Like little miracles of life.]

I do. Let's go, it's not too far.

[She stuffs her cheeks until they won't fit anything else, and dashes off back home. Which is a nice little brick in a clean little garden! Up on top of a nice little rock to keep it out of any puddles that might form. Or, more recently, out of the snow.

She heads inside, returning a little while later, a folded square of fabric in her position. Holding it up for him, it becomes rather clear that it is actually a handkerchief.]

Here you go! I told you that I would sew you one, so I did. Now you can wipe your hands and face on that instead of your clothes. Don't forget to wash it once you get home, after you use it.

[He easily keeps up with her, what with his giant long legs and all. When she heads into the little house, he crouches down, glancing over the little house. It looks pretty awesome. How can someone all live in something so tiny. How does that even work?

When she appears again, his eyes widen, taking the handkerchief from her.]

Woah. You really all made what for me?

I did! Have you never had someone make something like this for you?

[He sits down comfortably on the ground, resting the handkerchief on his knee, actually thinking deeply for a moment.]

Not that I can all be gettin' my remember on for. Like, the ol' goat were usually ain't not even there. He'd bring me stuff sometimes, but he couldn't all make it what with those hooves he all were in the possession of.

Well, then we'll consider this your first birthday present. Whether I'm a little late or early.

[She laughs, for once looking almost entirely carefree.]

Haha, I ain't even all got a birthday.

[he doesn't sound upset about that. He knows what they are, but growing up somewhere where they are not a concept does not leave him wanting one.]

Thanks. I'll up and keep this real close.

I don't know exactly what day it is, but I was born a week after the frost lifted off of the ground, mother said.

Johnathan was the one who taught me how to read a calendar, though, so that's how I learned my childrens' birthdays.

[Well, that doesn't help him much, but to be fair, it is unlike he would've been able to remember her birthday anyway.]

Johnathan?
