[ Eruka is an early riser herself and looks up at the sound of the bell jangling over the door. Since their previous conversation was only voice and not video, the first order of business is to make sure this is who she thinks it should be. ]

That's right. You're Eruka?

[She sounds the same, at least.]

[ she nods. from somewhere, she'd acquired and set up a blackboard and a desk, so the back of the shop looked like a miniature one-room schoolhouse ]

Good! [ she smiles at him ] Take a seat and we'll get started.

[He nods, and heads over to the desk - that looks like where he's supposed to sit, anyway - and takes a seat.]

Is using the communicators better really the only reason you want to learn to read?

Well... mostly. I thought that maybe if I could read I could figure out more about myself and my memories.

Yeah. I don't remember anything from before I died.

[ she stares -- had she heard that right? ]
