[Lily is in her bedroom with James, trying not to freak out while Remus shrieks in the basement. At the moment, she has her face buried in James' shoulder, and she's trying very hard not to cry. She's only being moderately successful.]

[James has his arms around her tightly. He hates the full moon and what it does for his friend and he hates that he can't be down there for his first transformation in this new place. But if Lily's reaction is anything to go by, he's made the right decision.

He presses a kiss to the top of his girlfriend's head and makes soothing sounds in her ear, for himself as well as her. He may have experience in these matters but it doesn't make it any better.]

[hexywitch]

[For some reason, Lily hadn't expected it to be this bad, and she's having a bit of a hard time coping. She wants so badly to help, but there's nothing at all she can do and she feels helpless. Thank Merlin for James, keeping her steady, holding her together.]

[softly] I love you, James.

[He nods.] Love you too. [He was quite amazed at the way she was handling this. James remembered the first night they waited outside the Whomping Willow. They could hear the screams if they listened hard enough and it had scared him then. Even though he was older now, the screams were louder and it made him feel just as helpless. He wanted to go down and comfort him as Prongs but he knew Lily needed him more.] Love you too, Lily.

[She pulls back a little, eyes filled with tears]

...I don't know what to do, James.

[James nodded.] Just try not to think about it. We could put a silencing charm on the door if that makes you feel better. [He knew it wouldn't but the lack of screaming had to be a plus.]

[hexywitch]

[She shakes her head] I can't not think about it. And you don't have to do that, I don't want to shut it out, I just...

[Tears spill out over her cheeks] ...I didn't know.

[James pulled her back into his arms, again whispering sweet nothings in her ear. He didn't know what was worse for him at the moment, knowing what Remus was going through, or how Lily was taking it.]

[She practically melts into him, letting out a choked sob into his shoulder]

[thickly] Please don't tell him I cried, James.

[Softly] I won't. [He knew how Lily was feeling. He'd cried too...back then.]

[hexywitch]

[She laughs softly through her tears]

I've gotten your shirt all wet.

It'll dry. [He gave her a reassuring smile before wiping away her tears with his thumb.]

[hexywitch]

[She scowls] And I'm sure I look absolutely hideous, too.

Nah. You'll never look anything less than stunningly beautiful to me.

[She smiles and kisses him because he's wonderful and she's feeling too many emotions right now]

[He kisses her back, careful not to make it too heated. Then he pulls her down to lie on the bed in his arms.]
