Selphie had certainly noticed who was missing from the SFC. That creep - the one that had killed her friends, the one that had killed her. Disappeared. There was every chance that he could come back, but in the mean time, Selphie's pretty pissed. Sure, she ( Read more... )

He is sitting a little ways away from the lakeside, book in hand (an old dusty one borrowed from the library earlier in the day). He had visited the festival on his way here but decided the noise and lights weren't quite his cup of tea at the moment.

Then, he notices the bursts of....of something. Wait a minute - was that fire shooting through the sky? Suzaku's defenses shoot to the fore and he scrambles up, tense.

"Who --" He recognizes the hair - the curl and bounce of it so very recognizable. The girl's face that was once so cheerful when they first met amongst the stacks, looked frighteningly different...

Still, he approaches.

"...Selphie. Miss, is that you?"

Selphie spins round on hearing her voice spoken, and she luckily catches her nunchaku between her hands before they lash out at Suzaku. She yells out in surprise, eyes wide and bewildered. She looks both startled, and quite exhausted.

She's breathing hard as she looks at him and finally manages to relax, "Oh! S-suzaku!"

He holds up his hands as if in defense, indicating he means her no harm.

"I'm not interrupting anything, am I? Pardon me if I do...it just..." Whatever he was going to say about the strange elements floating about is cut short.

Cue adorable headtilt.

"...You look exhausted. Something the matter?"

Selphie rested her nunchaku over her shoulder, because she certainly had no intention of hurting Suzaku at all.

She bit her lip, ready to explain her answer to the question that he was about to ask. But then he did that oh so cute headtilt and she smiled softly, "...just..." Selphie took another deep breath, "...a little frustrated, I guess!"

As Selphie shoots off a Blizzard spell, Axel counters it with a blaze of flame and steps out of the trees, looking somewhere between confused and impressed. He's been watching her go at this for a while now, but as her moves became more desperate and angry, he thought maybe it was time for an intervention.

"Quite a repertoire you've got there," he says, lifting his hands in that classic 'I'm unarmed' gesture. Then he folds his arms and leans against the nearest tree, running a finger along the trunk and inspecting the burn marks from those Fire spells she'd used earlier. "Not sure what the tree did to deserve it, though."

Was the lake starting to fight back? Selphie paused for the tiniest moment, but then moved, ready to reel back. But then she saw Axel and stumbled back a little, the heels of her boots splashing at the edge of the lake.

She lowered her nunchaku and her relaxed her shoulders, cheeks flushed from how hard she'd been working - that, and Vatheon takes quite a bit more energy than magic at home. She watched as he inspected the free and she suddenly felt rather guilty, pacing slowly to meet him.

"You're right... The poor tree..."

Axel quirked one eyebrow and shook his head.

"I... wasn't being serious, Selph," he said, and then unfolded one arm to point to himself. "One thing you'll learn is that 95% of what comes out of my face isn't meant to be taken at face value, got it memorized?" And then he gestured at her nunchaku. "So you can actually use those things?" he asked, and whistled, folding his arms again. "Damn; sectional weapons are tough." He grinned. "I tried out a three-section-staff once," he said, and then knocked the back of his head against the tree. "Clocked myself so hard in the back of the head I was out for twenty minutes."

He regarded her sternly a moment, then concluded, "And if you ever tell anyone I told you that I will be forced to deny it entirely and then beat you up.

"So what's eating you, anyhow?" he asked without segue. He didn't know Selphie terribly well, but she read like a large-print book most of the time. It wasn't hard to tell she was upset about something.

"Oh this?" Selphie took a step back to twirl her nunchaku around without hurting anyone or anything - she'd learned some nice party tricks with her weapon along the way. She enjoyed showing off with her weapon - very few people seemed to really understand how tricky they could be. Still, his whistle put her off slightly and she blushed a little.

"Okay, Axel. So long as I don't beat you up first." She was a little unnerved by his comment, and even though he'd just said something about face value, she still couldn't be entirely sure.

"Hmm? Nothing. Just...practising." She gave another flourish of her nunchaku, as though proving her statment; yup, she just looked angry as hell for...nothing.

Kenshin, along with the bitter chilly air about him, approach. There appeared to be no sign of an opponent, simply the lake and surrounding trees. As far as he knew, they didn't normally fight back.

"What ails you?" he inquired, his demeanor calm and composed.

Selphie stopped short in what she was doing and, on seeing Kenshin, she dropped her nunchaku and rushed over to him, throwing herself on him in a hug. "He's gone..."

He returned the hug. It was bad to see her so upset. "Who is?"

Selphie squeezed him that little bit harder, trembling a little, "The monster. The thing that..killed me."

Gamzee had just been wandering around Vatheon on a late walk, when the signs of magic had drawn his attention. Curiously, he had wandered closer, sedately, but when he saw who was tossing about all those spells, his posture changed slightly. He had never seen Selphie like this. It was kind of worrying. She was always so happy, so he was not quite sure what had happened to her to make her this upset.

He came closer, only stopping when a flicker of magic singed the tips of his hair. "Selphie? Hey sis, what's wrong?"

Selphie stopped herself immediately, eyes flying wide open to see Gamzee's hair almost on fire. That, and it had just given her a fright to see someone else there.

"Oh.. Hey Gamzee!" She flicked back into happy-go-lucky mode in a split second, "I'm okay... Just - uh, practising!"

Oh, he was not concerned about his hair at all. He has nearly set it on fire by doing less things. Selphie was his main concern here. And sure she had snapped into being all happy again, but his moirail was Wataru and his bestest buddy ever was Karkat and he knew some people just didn't act exactly like they were feeling at that moment for some reason.

"You sure, sis? You done looked like some shit got you all sorts of harsh." He's not trying to pry or needle, honestly. He just was worried about her.

"...yeah.." Selphie lowered her head and kicked at a stone with the side of her boot.

"...It's my fault own stupid fault though, Gamzee, so don't worry!" But she's still just staring down at her feet, digging up some grass with her toes.
