In armor of his own sans his trademark kabuto, Masamune happened to be visiting the plaza when he spotted Kenshin from a distance. Without wasting a second and, wearing a mild grin on his face, he changed courses and approached the fellow samurai. That seat was empty.
A slight smirk crossed Kenshin's lips, watching the dragon approach. Same old dragon he was, that cocky walk and smirk. Seemed he'd recovered from the ordeal with the near-loss of his chief retainer.
"Date-dono, do join me." He didn't directly answer the question, but he knew, under that hot-headdedness, Masamune was a rather intelligent man. There was no reason the two couldn't have a civil conversation. At least for a few moments.
Without missing a beat, he casually seated himself on the empty chair. There was no reason to be hostile, and he could push back a potential clash for later. Just for a little while, as long as the impending conversation was worth it.
"Don't expect me to have anything," he added. He wasn't in the mood to drink, nor was he interested in taking some of Kenshin's portion.
"That's all there's been to do lately," he replied. There's a pause; that sounded negative when it really wasn't. "Well," he continued, "it's not half as bad as it's made out to be."
"There are good and bad aspects to Vatheon," Kenshin agreed, pouring another cup of sake from the bottle. His experience was mixed. There was the thrill of battle and the solace of peace, but he still missed Echigo and his people dearly. And his rivalry.
"Indeed I would," Kenshin smiled slightly. He had every plan of downing the entire bottle by himself, though he wouldn't be beyond sharing it. After all, there was an endless supply and Kenshin was a very heavy drinker.
His gaze drifted to the bottle, then to the cake, before finally resting back on Kenshin. It wasn't that he wanted anything. It was the mere fact that he was talking to this man over things like these.
He downed another cup of sake, considering the answer. There was no Echigo, no people, no neighbors to fight. "Certainly little similar to home during times of peace."
"Hardly," Kenshin replied simply. None had been able to keep his interest in that respect. He did have friends, just no rivals. That spot was still held for Takeda Shingen.
"Too bad," he offered. "Not even the two with the same names? I'm not expecting anyone to take the Tiger of Kai's place." Motochika and Mitsuhide, two highly unlike the individuals Masamune and Kenshin were familiar with. Yet, they were still samurai themselves.
Of course, a silent inclusion of himself hung in the air. And me?
Those two, Mitsuhide and Motochika, had become allies though not rivals. Now Masamune, sitting before him, was a strong contender. Hot headed, arrogant, including that silent 'me' hanging stiffly in the air, but he was still quite a strong samurai.
A smirk danced across his lips as he downed another cup of sake. "No one could take his place," Kenshin agreed, "though there are some who are welcome to try."
"Hey, War God. You expecting someone?"

"It is fine sake," Kenshin commented, pouring a cup then downing it as if it were water. "Have you settled in, Date-dono?"

"You'd know, wouldn't you?" And another cup. This early in the day, and already the war god's downed several cups.
"After all, you've been here longer."

"I have. Several months."

"So?" he drawled. "What do you do here?"

"You find any worthwhile rivals around these parts?"
None as worthy as the Tiger of Kai, naturally.
