Since Selphie had been camping out in the plaza, she had noticed Kenshin sitting enjoying himself, looking very fancy and all dressed up. She stretched and yawned before crossing the plaza, plopping herself down on the chair opposite him.

"Kenshin! You look so handsome!"

Kenshin turned and offered Selphie a soft yet warm smile. It was what he often wore, though as of late, he had been wearing a yukata with the warmer weather.

"Good afternoon, Selphie," he greeted his housemate and close friend. "How do you fair this afternoon?"

"Hmm...I'm okay. My friend has disappeared...but I bet he'll be back."

She made a brave smile, nodding towards the cake, "So you like it, huh?"

"I am certain he will." A disappearing friend. That seemed to be the story of Vatheon. Friends came and went mysteriously. And sometimes they came back.

Kenshin nodded. "Indeed I do. Such an unusual yet very delicious taste."

Selphie smiled brightly, glad that he agreed about her friend coming back.

"Kenshin... what would happen if you went away?"

Now that was a difficult question to answer. He knew what his heart longed for: Echigo, his people, his rivalry.

"If I returned to Echigo, I would protect my people once again." Probably not the answer she wanted, but it was a genuine one. He missed Echigo dearly. He wasn't just their lord, he was their leader, their protector. "I am certain you would continue on. You are a very strong woman."

"Hmm..." She reached forward to take a piece of cake, "Do you think you'd remember me?"

To be honest, he wasn't certain. He knew time stood still, as Kagome had informed him, but memories of the place? Kagome did remember him, but vaguely. How much would he truly remember of the place and how much would would he forget?

"I would hope I do."

And in the meantime, that was okay. Reassurance was all she was after. It was becoming so hard - people coming and going and going and coming. She wasn't sure she could keep up with it.

"Good." She smiled.

He simply smiled softly, observing her reaction. Loss of another friend was undoubtedly affecting her. He was pretty sure she'd asked him the same (or at least a similar) question once before.

Kenshin scooted the plate with the chocolate cake across the table. "Have some." Sweets were supposed to make people happier, right?

And no doubt she had: the same thought crossed her mind and she felt quite embarrassed. But he'd over her cake and she was happy to accept, "Thanks!"

"My pleasure." Kenshin smiled and finished off the cup of sake he had set before him. It truly did go well with cake.

"Do you like drinking sake with it, better than with tea?" She's looking, perhaps a little too hopefully, at Kenshin's sake supply.

"Indeed sake goes well with cake," Kenshin nodded. He noticed Selphie's line of sight. She was taking after him far too much. However he poured a little into the extra sake cup and offered it to her. A little bit would do no harm.

Like father, like daughter, right? Or something like that. Selphie took the sake gratefully from him, and sips it slowly.

"Mmm! Sake does go well with cake!"

Something like that.

"I thought so, as well," Kenshin agreed. Then again, to him, sake went with nearly everything. Such a heavy drinker he was.

"Would you like some cake as well?" he offered the second slice.
