She pauses, to listen to his question, and then giggled a little at it even though it was probably serious. "Of course Caden! While we made not be as good as those whose artworks are here...we all can draw something. Be it a circle, a tree or even a line. And if you aren't that good at drawing, or making a shirt or growing flowers, there is something out there that makes you special and important. It can even be the people you meet that makes you different from the rest."

He took one step back, and then another, with arms out to the side. "How do you know about Naminé and the rest of that?!" He summoned Soul Eater and gripped it tight. He kept it down at his side, but he was in full panic mode, his eyes alight with a 'run' instinct if it got bad.
"ARE YOU WITH THE ORGANIZATION!?"

"ARE YOU WITH THE ORGANIZATION!?"
...okay maybe there had been a reason. Kairi flips her hands up in defense and she looks so confused and maybe even a little scared because she doesn't want to fight and there was... "Caden! I'm not one of them! I was even kidnapped by them once. So they could get to my friends. Why would someone like me ever be like them? And...I've talked with Namine before. Here. In Vatheon. She's...She's my Other half. Caden, please...I don't understand what is making you so upset. Just...please calm down!"
She doesn't understand, and she actually backs up from him because its out now. Riku...he had never been like this. But Caden...maybe Caden had a bad experience with them? And he knew Namine? But...how...?

He turned his head away from her for a moment. "So that's why..." He looked back at her again, straight in the eyes. "That has to be why the he knows you - why I got a memory spark when I saw you for the first time. You haven't said it - but you know who I look like. Think I need to be different from him, but that's not all there is to it! It's not so simple."
He angled his chin up, and took on his stronger posture again. "About the Organization... what all do you know about them? Why did they take you?"

She didn't question Caden either, although her head tilted...at first he was confusing her, but then the pieces fit. He was talking about Riku, wasn't he? She met his gaze, and that's when she realized it. He was...He looked like Riku and yet was wanting to not be. Wanting to be different. Individual. Her first thought was that he was some sort of hidden identical twin but shook her head away from the thought of Caden being a clone. And if he was...
"You're right. It's hard to be different from someone when you look like them, but Caden I don't think you're like Riku at all. Maybe you do look like him but from...just from our conversation I can tell that there's a spark in there that's your own. A memory of your own. Of your own self. You don't have to follow fate, Caden...trust me. My friends and I had to fight it all the time before we came here."
She knew it was going to be hard for him, but he seemed to be the type that would be determined, so determined to try...
Okay. Organization questioning time. "I don't...I don't really remember much aside from that they wanted to be whole again. Axel was helping me find Sora and Riku again...but I was kidnapped by this man named Saix. When..Namine rescued me from the cell in the Castle that Never Was, we tried to run and then Saix found us. I probably would have fought him and lost but someone...Riku...he helped me." She shook her head and crossed her arms over her chest, worry coloring her face. "I'm what's called a Princess of Heart--a person with a heart of light. No darkness. Sora and Riku...they are the closest friends I could ever dream of having, but because of my previous inability to fight...I got kidnapped so that Sora and Riku could help the Organization complete Kingdom Hearts. But from my time, we..I feel like we completed the task. We had to have, at that time..."
She paused a minute, offering him the lightest hint of a smile before continuing again. "I'm sorry about the ramble but I hope that helps..."

Saix... I don't think I remember him. I didn't know that other guy either, so there's gotta be more of them... more that were never in the Castle to begin with.
Hearing her talk about Sora and Riku, though... he'd never been told before just what Naminé had done to his memories, but it was becoming pretty clear to him that Kairi should've been there. And if Naminé never really was, then she must've taken Kairi's place in those memories -- some were twisted, some never happened, but Kairi's glaring absence was easy for him to feel, now that he was actively thinking about it.
He gave a small, wry laugh. "You make it sound so easy, Kairi." A hand went up to the nape of his neck, feeling the long hair there as well. "And it just doesn't... feel that easy to me."
He decided, knowing she was a part of Naminé and vice versa, to explain a little more. Something about her and Naminé - they made it easy to speak from the heart. "I have these memories - they stretch on for years and years. I know they're all fake; I know I wasn't ever there, but even still it feels that way. I can't just... undo all of that. Even knowing I'm just a replica of the real thing..." He held out his hand, then gripped it tight. "In my head, I still think of myself as him. As 'Riku-' " He shook his head for emphasis. "Not 'Caden.' "

She cut herself off...listened to his explanation. Fake...memories? Riku? They were Riku's memories? She shook her head. It was so confusing to her but she had to think of his point of view. He had nothing to think of for his own...and...those he did remember were not even his own...
"Caden, you can start now you know. What may not be yours...from the past, you can start anew, remember different things. You don't have to change the past...you can just start now. Start anew. Use what you remember of Riku and...start being Caden."
Instinctively she placed a hand on his clenched fist to get him to relax a bit--he wasn't going to get anywhere if he kept those emotions bottled up...

Such a simple question, but one he couldn't help but ask - and with it came a tremor to his voice. He let his hand muscles relax, until her hand lay directly on top of his, and then he held onto it gently.
"I don't know how- I don't remember what I was like, if I was any different at all, and I can't ever go back without giving up more. What if I already messed it up, Kairi?"
Reply
"Caden, I'm not asking you to remember the past completely. I want you to just...take what you can remember and...let it guide you. When one door closes, Caden, another opens. You just have to find it. If you want me to help...I can do as much to my ability, but you have to find the true you in yourself. I know you can. I don't think you've messed up something that is so close to you..."
She gives him a little smile but she's still concerned. "Just put some faith in yourself. You'll find it, Caden...I know you will."

Still she believed he could do it, and she wasn't the only one. He had no clue where all of their bottomless confidence in self-identity came from, but he suspected it was because they were all real. It probably came to them as naturally as breathing.
"I'll try." The words escaped him before he could register it. The solid warmth of her hands drew his focus back to the present at last, and he amended himself a little: "That's all I can promise."

Her hands still remain on his hands. Confidence was something that sometimes walked hand and hand with determination and loyalty. After all, had she really abandoned Riku after he had embraced the darkness? Had she given up on Sora coming home when they had been separated? Some things were hard to give up on...and Caden's own situation...she felt like that was one of those things. One of those situations.
A situation that made her heart tell her that she would stand besides Caden and help him fight for his individuality. He only confirmed it with his words.
She smiled warmly at him and let go of his own hands, letting hers fall to her side. "That's a start, Caden. As long as you're willing to try...that's a better promise than not trying at all. And if you ever need someone to talk to, you can send me a message and we can talk that way, too."
