Unfortunate, isn't it, when things that should not happen do nonetheless? Rather naughty of them.

[Good thing creepy guys don't creep him out too much.

He still jumped, though, spinning around to face the man.]

Well, yeah. But if things always went like we planned, we wouldn't learn anything, right? [A pause.] So, uh... Where am I? [He's still trying to figure that out. Was it possible that he totally accidentally invented some sort of transporting device?]

Do you think so?

[He simply spreads his arms wide in a questioning gesture, long floppy sleeves covering his hands.]

It is a rather narrow mindset, that we might only learn from mistakes, and not from successes as well.

Well, yeah! I mean, of course we learn from getting things right! I just think sometimes it takes getting things wrong to learn, too. [Rubs the back of his head. He had just recently learned all about that.

Uh, I kind of knew that much already. I was talking about this place. It's not my lab.

[Hahaha what a cute little bratling. He simply smiles, sleeves clapping together.]

Isn't it? Ah, alas, you must have been kidnapped as well. Now, this is a surprise!

Wha-? Kidnapped? But, I wasn't-- [Pausing, and frowning a bit.]

Wait, is that how I got here?

Presumably so, unless your definition of kidnapping does not involve being brought to an unknown place by an unknown force!

Well, yeah, it is. I guess so, then. [Pondering what this means..]

But...why? I mean, you said 'as well', so I'm clearly not the only one.

Why is an excellent question, particularly when proceeded by 'when' and 'how'!

Unfortunately, the answers to all of those questions is the same.

So no one really knows anything? [Geez, he wasn't too crazy about this. He liked to know things.]

I think you will find that many people know a number of things--but it is unlikely that a person shall know what you wish to learn.

So, then....what do I do here? I mean, if I'm stuck, then is there a point to it all?

I wonder what you might be asking, sir.

Is there a point to "it all"? I cannot say I've ever found an "it all" with a point, but that does not necessarily make one pointless!

I meant, like, a reason for being here. Is there a reason for us being here? Something we're supposed to do?
