[Although she doesn't read (not with her visor in the way, anyway), Rider still enjoys coming to the library. The smell of the old books and the quietness is quite soothing to her. Most people would rather be out and about with their friends than come to a place like this...

Which is why it's so odd to find Ban sitting there reading. Pausing in the isle by where his table is, Rider tries to figure out if she should reveal herself or simply walk away.]

[No need; the Epidexipteryx notices her first, and gives a warning squawk...right into Ban's ear. Twitching, he flicks the dinosaur's snout, then glances over. He smiles when he sees Rider standing in the aisle, and then turns back to his book, though not without a few words to his shoulder buddy.]

This's your only warning; you snap at or bite her, and I'm kicking you off my shoulder for good.

[Well crap, so much for just leaving. Still, Rider's just going to stand there for now until he either calls her over or comes to her.]

...there's plenty of room if you'd like to come over and sit down.

[He swings his legs back down to the ground, startling the tiny dinosaur.]

....

[Slowly and silently, Rider walks over and stands by the table, but doesn't sit just yet.]

My feet are off the table, my hands are on the book, and he won't bite.

[He reaches over, patting a second chair, then sits back, book reopened.]

I am more comfortable with standing. As it is, I will not be here for much longer.

Why not?

There is no point in me remaining here.

[He raises an eyebrow, glancing over.]

An' what makes you say that?

In case you cannot figure it out on your own, I am unable to read anything without killing the majority of the individuals here.

Obviously, but you can still enjoy the peace and quiet here.

[...and then a possibly stupid idea.]

...or I can read aloud to you.

That will not be necessary.

You sure? It's a pretty interesting story. I think you might like it.

[He nods nearby; the chair's still available.]

's called Dinotopia. A man and his son shipwrecked on an island where dinosaurs, humans, and other prehistoric creatures live in relative harmony.
