As exciting as the initial prospect had been, James wasn't much enjoying Vatheon. He'd had to start making friends with Lily all over again, he couldn't play Quidditch, couldn't piss off any poltergeists for fun, his magic was weaker than usual, and, worst of all, two of his three best friends were missing. He'd been slowly descending into a rather bad mood, desperate for something to do-- he was very nearly going stir-crazy.

Until, wandering through the plaza, anyway, he saw a very wet Sirius Black.

Brilliant. James broke into a jog to approach his best friend, calling, "Late as usual, aren't you, Padfoot?"

Whatever Sirius had been thinking vanished when he heard the unmistakeable voice of his best friend.

"Prongs! Oh, you know me, I always like to arrive fasionably late; Makes things more interesting."

As tired as he felt and as hopeless as the situation had been, he instantly decided it wasn't going to be so bad if James were here too.

"There's nothing fashionable about you at all, you git," James informed him, pulling Sirius into a hug as soon as he was within arms-reach. After a moment he pushed him away again, mussing Sirius' hair as he did, and said, "Blimey, you have no idea how glad I am you're here, mate. This place is nuts, you wouldn't believe."

"Oi! Lay off the hair, I'm already all wet." He batted at the hand but shot James a playful grin. "A city underwater? I knew there was something off about it. What else could possibly be wrong?"

"Well, our magic's weaker," James said, making it clear he was not pleased with this. "There are all these people who can't possibly be from home, they're quite mental, and people were changing genders and stuff. Wormtail's not here, and I haven't seen Moony in a while even though he was-- Lily's here, but--" He frowned. "She says it's fifth year. Hates me all over again." His mouth twisted wryly. "Not that that should be the most of my worries, but..."

Wow, that was a lot wrong, crazies, weird happenings, sounded like home to him.

Sirius offered James a sympathetic smile. "I'm sorry, mate, I know you had been making progress with her, too. Hey, but, you did it once, you can do it again? Now, what's this about Moony? He's here but he's sorta missing?"

Don't read too much into that concerned tone, Prongs, he's just worried about his friend, that's all...

"Yeah, I just-- I dunno, I haven't seen him. I'm a bit afraid he's not here any more, wherever 'here' really is besides an underwater city. Wormtail's not even around at all."

James shook his head and kicked a pebble. "It's been boring as hell, and I haven't like a bit of it. Well-- maybe a bit. Valentine's was fun. And at least our magic's not totally missing, maybe together we can make it work a bit more, yeah?" He looked up and grinned then.

"Maybe it's a good thing wormtail's not here, don't know if he could handle it. And, as for Moony...he's probly still around, is there a library here? Maybe he's lost track of time, you know how he can get." He's trying to remian hopeful, although he's still worried.

"Aw, Prongsy, underwater city boring you? Guess will just have to change that, won't we?"

"I haven't been to the library if there is one, but I hope that's the case..." James bit his lip. He was worried about Remus, whom he hadn't seen since his arrival, and he had a sort of older-brotherly affection for Peter, whom he always worried was getting into trouble (and not the right kind of trouble). It wouldn't be like Remus to stay completely out of James' radar knowing he was around, and he was worried about what happened to people when they vanished. No one knew for certain that they just returned home.

He shook off the thought and made himself laugh, shoving Sirius lightly. "Only if you think you're up to the challenge, mate. I found a shop that sells stuff from our world-- I'm sure there's boundless amounts to do with what we can find, weaker magic or no."

"I'm sure it's...something like that..."

As light-hearted as he was trying to be for the both of them, Sirius would have liked nothing more than to set eyes on the missing teen and know he was all right, he knew it wasn't like Remus to just dissapear. As for Peter, he'd be at home still, wouldn't he? He would be in good hands without them.

He decided to try and stay hopeful seeing as, short of combing the city, they really couldn't do anything.

"Up to the challenge? Me? Always! I say we find this shop and see what sort of things we can find there that could be...entertaining.

"I trained you well," James teased, grinning at Sirius. "Maybe get you dry first, a bit? Hold on--"

He dug in his pockets, pulling out his wand and aiming it at the other teen. James murmured a quick spell, siphoning water off Sirius' clothes as best he could. It took a bit longer than it might have usually, but it was still effective.

"Ponce." He laughed, but was very greatful to be dry again.

"Thanks. So, what's next, Prongsy?"

"Well, that's just not true," James said, shaking his head. "Next we liven this place up a bit. And you can move in with me if you like, mate, I've been pining and unable to sleep without you by my side. Best part about this is, there's no homework and no McGonagall to take points off for our not doing any, yeah?"

"Aww, did you miss me, darling? Sure, moving in with you makes the most sense, since that's sorta what I was planning on doing before this place picked me up."

He pretended to think about it for a moment.

"No homework, no McGonagall, nearly all my friends in one place...I don't think I mind it here so much.
